Reading Borough Council pass motion to support
Reading City of Sanctuary
Reading City of Sanctuary are thrilled to announce that RBC
passeda motionofsupport for their charity in a full council
meeting yesterday evening.
“This is fantastic news and it means a lot to have the council’s
full backing and support” said Kate Butler Reading CoS project
coordinator.
‘’Reading has a proud traditionof welcoming people from other
countries and we want all of those who find themselves here to
feel safe. Whilst Reading CoS is not about lobbying for more
refugees it’s about looking after the ones that are here. Under
international law and government policy, the UK has committed
to take in a number ofrefugees and asylum seekers. They have
often sufferedgreat hardshipin their own country and have
faced dangerous journeys to get here. It’s the least we can do to
ensure that they feel wanted and safe. We are working across
the town with many other organisations to ensure that they are
safe and happy here.
The council’s support gives weight to our charity and will
hopefully encourage more individuals and organisations to
come forwardin support ofus’’
