About The Logo
The Institute of Creative Arts encompasses the four creative schools
which are ran by the Ministry of Culture,Youth and Sport: The National
School of Dance,The National School of Music,The National School of
Theatre Arts, and The E.R. Burrowes School of Art.To create a logo for
such an institute, I had to narrow each one of these arts down to their
very basic, the thing they all have in common.
At the heart of this logo lies the pen. Hidden in the negative space
between the green and yellow leaves which represent the growing and
developing student, the pen is not obvious. It is only referenced by the
curves which creates its shape and the black dot that is its source of ink.
Conceptually, each discipline comes back to the pen.To the artist, the
pen is a merely a tool in the grand scheme. For the dancer, the drama-
tist, and the musician, the pen is what captures onto paper the ex-
pressions which can only be experienced through our senses. The pen
captures the notes from the first few seconds of a musical masterpiece.
It captures the scribbles, corrections and crossing out in creating a char-
acter. Its ink expresses choreography with fluidity that is only rivalled by
the body. And it marks the initial sketches or the final touches for the
painter and designer. But the most important job of the pen is the signa-
ture. The signature becomes a logo, a legacy which will outlive the artist.
It will forever reference the quality and craft that went into making
timeless works. The pen encompasses all art, from beginning to end.
