1. Hi, you are?...
I’m Karl DONVIL
Self-employed but parttime photographer
I live in Boutersem
I was born on february 2, 1957
I attended high school Latin-Sciences at the
O-L-Vrouwe College in Tienen
2. What brings you here?
I have always been interested in photographing and filming.
as film was no option in the early seventies to make a living I
took an office job at the ABB Insurance company in Leuven.
3. And then…
I got married, had children but was not that happy with my
job at the insurance company.
I felt I had more possibilities and skills and something inside
me told me to get rid of these frustrations.
4. As an autodidact I got my photography diploma after
succesfully passing my exams before the Central
Examination Commission of the Belgian Government and
started my own business combining my passion for dogs with
photographing besides my office job at ABB/KBC and turning
it into a specialization.
Go on…
5. And…
Companies like Pedigree/MASTERFOODS contracted me
and send me to as far as Mexico to cover shows for them.
My pioneering spirit fitted well in their master plan and they
liked my commercial feeling and my loyalty to the company.
6. And your writing?…
I always had a critical but constructive attitude and a passion
to share it. That is why I’m fond of brainstorming in group.
Belgium Dog Shows were rarely reported in the foreign press
and as I speak and write fluently English, French and even
German I decided to write reports of these shows and send
them to magazines around the world.
7. And was there any response?
Yes, it took me only a few years before more than twenty
magazines published my articles, some on a regular basis
some depending on the subject and importance of the event.
The organizers of dog events were happy now that the world
knew about what happened over here in Belgium.
I am welcomed now on all their shows and they grant me all
necessary facilities
8. That was Belgium…
- Dogshows are all over the world and every year there was
the World- and the European Dog Show happening in
another country alike the Olympics. I proposed the
magazines to go and cover them as a freelancer on my own
expenses and they were glad of course as that way they
could save lots on travel- and hotel costs.
- And so I travelled all over the world and built a reputation in
the field of dogshows.
9. And how was it there…
Photographing on such events was very, very chaotic and I
decided to streamline it
I have always been very social minded and so I united most
of the press photographers in the World Dog Press
Association and promised the organizations that our
members were reliable and trustworthy.
10. Interesting…
I decided to make everything legal and
official and turned it into an International
Non-profit Organization with statutes under
Belgian law.
The WDPA has over 400 registrations
worldwide and around 120 active members
in every part of the world and is officially
Recognized by the American Kennel Club,
The British Kennel Club and the
F(ederation) C(ynologique) I(nternational)
World Dog Press Association elections 2011 for the new
board

11. And your photography?…
I stepped early into the digital era but my knowledge of the
traditional way and chemical applications helped me a lot in
practicing Photoshop since version 4.
I used to print in color in the wet way as well as digital
nowadays.
I have a website with almost 500.000 dogphotos.
I collaborated for several books and was de photographer of
two Encyclopedias on dogs.
and I have a passion for travel photography too
12. Self employed but why then a job?
I have always worked at a insurance company, hence my
profound knowledge of legal matters and my passion to
intermediate and solve problems.
But due to internal reorganization I lost my job and an
important part of my income.
My photography is based on a specialty that has its limits and
it is almost impossible to expand it into a fulltime job.
13. And what are you looking for then?
A job where I can use and develope my skills, photography in
the fist place, Photoshop and artwork, but writing or a job that
needs organizing talent or brainstorming and collaborating in
team is welcome, a job where creativity comes first and
where passion rules.
14. But why here?...
Your company seems to offer possibilities to
expand myself and to help your company
benifit from it for a 110%.
Your company impressed me since long and
I hoped one day to belong to one of your teams
Your company is reliable and fits my beliefs
and that is why my loyalty will not be a
disappointment
Your company is innovative, open minded and
with a vision, a match to my own qualities
15. But you’re not the only candidate!
I can just hope that this presentation of myself has risen your
curiosity to meet me in person, test me and hopefully employ
me.
I am waiting for you reply
