BIO- Karen McCollum has a Masters education in Counsellingwith a
Master of Divinity and is a respected, experienced, compassionate
counsellor. Karen believes in the healingabilityof arts-basedcounselling
because it encourages,strengthens and supports individuals as they work
through life’s challengingrealities. She is respectful of all faiths and
believes ‘spiritualityis deeply personal’. Her abilityto be empathetic
without seeming disingenuous is a rare trait. Karen believes creativityof
any kind is the key that unlocks the door to a sense of well-being(mind,
spirit, body).
Karen began blendingart-makingand music into counsellingsessions,
workshops, seminars, support groups and private and group retreats
several years ago. She has both personal and professional experience with
grief and loss. Karen is qualifiedas a CertifiedGrief Recovery Specialist and
has developed and facilitatedcommunity workshops, seminars and the
counsellingprogramfor two funeral homes. She has been a Chaplain in
multi-cultural, multi-faith long-termcare settings and served as Client
Services Director for a non-profitsocial service agencywhere she began her
career as an addiction/mental health counsellor. Karen is trainedas a
SoulCollage® facilitator, a Level III Therapeutic Touch Practitioner andin 5-
Point AuricularAcupuncture.
Currently, she provides counselling support to women and their children at
a local women’s shelter. She teaches art classes for the City of Port
Colborne and facilitates creative workshops at Ridgeway Wellness. For
