The document describes a partial foil woven highlighting technique used on a client. Medium to coarse hair was pre-lightened to a level 6/10. Two shades of highlights (Magma /07 and /89) were woven through sections of the hair using foil, leaving gaps in between. The highlights were developed for 20-40 minutes then washed out. A nourishing spray and thermal protectant were used when blow drying and styling the hair straight. The finished result blended the highlights throughout the hair to achieve dimension and a subtle effect, fulfilling the vision discussed with the client.
3. Partial Colour – Partial Foil Woven
Highlights / lowlights are colouring techniques which allow
sections of hair to be coloured while leaving the surrounding
hair untouched. The overall aim of the partial head method
is to create a uniform variation of several shades through a
designated area. There should be no 'gaps' or 'patches' in
the finished result, that is the hair can be combed in any
direction and the highlighted/lowlighted effect is visible.
For the presentation of the technique the following criteria
for model selection are:
− Hair Length minimum of 3" or 8cm on the
designated area
− Natural substrate 3/0 or lighter with <50% white hair
Target: →
Partial head highlight/lowlight application using a minimum
of two shades, with a bowl & brush resulting in an even root
to tip result and a 'visible' difference from the natural hair
colour.
❑ Correct assessment of the natural substrate.
❑ Client prepared appropriately.
❑ Self prepared appropriately.
❑ Correct mixing and measuring.
❑ Clean uniform sectioning and evenly woven sections.
❑ Application technique started at the lower section
of the designated area. Working up to the centre top
section finishing on the top of the head.
❑ Foil should appear neat with clean folds – no crumpling.
❑ Result a uniform root, middle lengths and ends,
uniformed colour variation throughout the designated
area with a clear distinction between the colour choices.

My model Hemangi has done a 6/ (dark Blonde) color
from Koleston Perfect. Has beautiful long hair. Was
looking for few pieces of highlights that would blend
across her hair.

Hemangi has a long length with a long forward
graduation. My model has just finished her college and
bagged her first job too. She came in looking for
highlights but was sceptical on how the process would
be. Post my consultation/diagnosis, I recommended her
to shorten her length while refreshing her graduation. I
also recommended her with highlights of soft woven
pieces on the crown that would blend across her length.
Hemangi exactly understood my end vision on her hair
and agreed with the same.

or post colour development.
Used Herringbone Technique from front to back on the
horse shoe. Applied Magma /07 and /89 on alternative
sections as weaves blocked in foils. Kept a visual check
on both foils between 20 – 40 mins. Post 30 mins,
Washed the color and applied Post Color Treatment.

For washing out the color, I used SP Color Save
Shampoo to give longer color intensity and brilliance.
Followed by Magma Color Complete to balance the pH-
value and to give long lasting color result. Kept it for 3
mins and then rinsed it out.
Hemangi and I agreed to reducing her length. For the
same, tok sections based on her parting to create a line
with a ‘U’ shape at the back. Connected the guide from
back to front. No layers or Graduation given here,

used Enrich Nourishing Spray before the blow dry.
Used Wella Professionals – Thermal Image from the Dry

dry, used big wooden round brush to add shine and
movement, followed by ironing on thick sections.

10. Please describe how satisfied you are with the finished colour
and look.
The motive was to keep the hair long and no reduction
on length at the crown. The Technique done here gives
a natural effect on the hair. Using different tones gave a
dimensional effect on her hair whilst making it look rich
and subtle.
I achieved of what I had a vision at the start and my
model was very happy with the end result.
