4. INTRODUCTION OF THE COMPANY
• Amul is an Indian dairy cooperative, based at Anand in
the state of Gujarat, India. Formed in 1950, it is a brand
managed by a cooperative body, the Gujarat Co-
operative Milk Marketing Federation Ltd. (GCMMF),
which today is jointly owned by 3.6 million milk
producers in Gujarat.
• Dr Varghese Kurian, founder-chairman of the GCMMF
for more than 30 years (1973–2006), is credited with
the success of Amul. Amul products are now available
in more than 60 countries in the world.
5. The Amul Model
• The Amul Model of dairy development is a three-
tiered structure with the dairy cooperative societies
at the village level federated under a milk union at
the district level and a federation of member unions
at the state level.
• The Amul model has helped India to emerge as the
largest milk producer in the world. More than 15
million milk producers pour their milk in 1,44,500
dairy cooperative societies across the country. Their
milk is processed in 184 District Co-operative Unions
and marketed by 22 State Marketing Federations,
ensuring a better life for millions.
11. SUMMERY OF VISIT
• We landed at AMUL by 3 PM. After that, we gathered in front of a Museum and
visited various sections of AMUL.
• At first, we went to the Kurian Memorial Museum, there was a lady described
Amul establishment, hurdles that they faced while establishing after that she
showed and explained milestone incident photos of Amul those are on the wall.
Then we went to seminar hall to see AV about the history of AMUL.
• After that we visited 4 units of AMUL Dairy Plant:

• 1) Milk powder plant, where we visited manufacturing as well as packing and
dispatching functions of Amul.
• 2) Milk process unit, where we were saw of the pasteurized milk production
process.
• 3) Cheese processing unit, where we were saw making cheese from butter and
packaging process.
• 4) Butter process unit, where we saw butter process unit and during this period we
saw all Amul products at one place in a small glass container.
