1. In this presentation, I will be discussing 3
different statements about things pertaining
to the female body and giving more
information about each.
2.
A physician who specializes in the treatment
of women is called a…
Gynecologist
Gynec/o = woman
-logist = one who studies
3.
Gynecologists specializes in the diagnosis
and treatment of conditions of the female
reproductive system.
This includes diseases of the uterus,
fallopian tubes, cervix, ovaries, vagina,
vulva, and last but not least, sexually
transmitted diseases.
What do Gynecologists
do?
4.
Gynecologists should not be confused with
obstetrics.
Usually, one would see this: OB/GYN. The
abbreviation OB stands for obstetric and the
abbreviation GYN stands for gynecology. These
two are commonly put together because more
often than not, a gynecologist is an obstetric as
well.
Although similar, they do not have the same role.
Gynecologists Vs.
Obstetrics
5.
Obstetrics specializes in the diagnosis and treatment
of women during pregnancy and childbirth, and
immediately after childbirth.
So, from definition, gynecologists and obstetrics
differ from whether or not a woman is pregnant.
Gynecologists Vs.
Obstetrics
6.
Some reasons to go see a gynecologist:
If you have had any sexual contact
If it has been months since your last period
If you have not gotten your period by the age of 15 or
within 3 years from when your breast have started to
grow
If your period is irregular
Why see a Gynecologist?
7.
The doctor may ask basic questions about the history of
your health.
He or she may check the outside of your genitals and do a
breast exam.
A pap test and pelvic exam may be done if you have been
sexually active
Pap test: taking cells from cervix to check for any changes
that could be cancer or that could lead to cancer.
Pelvic exam: examination of the vulva. May also involve the
doctor looking inside the vagina to check and make sure the
cervix are healthy.
What Should One Expect?
8.
Gynecologists are very important doctors for
females. Going to see one as a female is a very
important doctors visit, even if it is for a regular
“check up”.
Gynecologists may be able to save your life by
catching things like what may have been cancer just
in time, to prescribing you the best medication for
any diseases that you might have.
Taking care of your health is a major key to having a
prolonged life, and gynecologist can help.

The time required for the development of a fetus is
called….
Gestation
10.
The human gestation period is normally about 40
weeks, but may range from 37 to 42 weeks.
Premature births are considered anything before the
37th week.
Induced labor by medication will occur if it has been
over 42 weeks, and the baby hasn’t been born.
11.
There are three stages of human gestation.
It is divided into three month long periods called
trimesters.
Stages of Gestation
12.
The time frame for the first trimester starts from the
first day of the last period through the 13th week of
the pregnancy.
During this time, the fetus is in the womb of the
mother.
Many women may not realize that they are pregnant
at this time until they have morning sickness or they
miss their period.
First Trimester
13.
The time frame for the second trimester is the 14th
week of the pregnancy through the 27th week.
During this week, most women do not have morning
sickness anymore and the baby begins to grow very
quickly.
The mother can feel movement during this trimester
around the 20th week. Most describe it as feeling
butterflies.
The gender of the baby can be known during this
period.
Second Trimester
14.
The time frame for the third trimester begins in the
28th week through the birth of the child.
The fetus has now increased in size and has stretched
the uterus and abdomen of the mother.
The first part of this trimester is when the baby will
be very active. As the child gets bigger, the mother
will get more uncomfortable.
The last few weeks of this trimester, contractions will
begin and get stronger as the body preps for birth.
Third Trimester
15.
The gestation period is a long time for some and may
be uncomfortable for part or most of the time.
Though this may be true for some, mostly every
mother can say that it is truly a beautiful experience
from the day you realize that you are pregnant from
the moment the child is born.

16.
The cessation of menstruation is called…
Menopause
The absence of menstrual
periods for 12 months
17.
Menopause can affect women in their 40s and 50s,
however, the most common age in which this occurs
is 51 in the United States.
What Age does Menopause
Start?
18.
Some symptoms of menopause include:
Fatigue
Night sweats
Osteoporosis
Hot flashes
Insomnia
Absence of menstruation
Moodiness
Symptoms
19.
One of the most common complaints from women
who are in menopause is hot flashes.
Hot flashes vary from woman to woman. Some may
have it for a very short time, and others may have it
for a longer duration.
On the bright side, they generally are less severe
after time passes.
Hot Flashes
20.
Menopause seems to be downer time of the lives of
females, primarily because at a certain age, you can
no longer bring life into the world.
Trying to have a positive attitude is proven to be the
best way about to go about this stage in life as the
discomforts eventually come to an end.
