and treatment of conditions of the female
reproductive system.
This includes diseases of the uterus,
fallopian tubes, cervix, ovaries, vagina,
vulva, and last but not least, sexually
transmitted diseases.

obstetrics.
 Usually, one would see this: OB/GYN. The
abbreviation OB stands for obstetric and the
abbreviation GYN stands for gynecology. These
two are commonly put together because more
often than not, a gynecologist is an obstetric as
well.
 Although similar, they do not have the same role.

of women during pregnancy and childbirth, and
immediately after childbirth.
 So, from definition, gynecologists and obstetrics
differ from whether or not a woman is pregnant.

 If it has been months since your last period
 If you have not gotten your period by the age of 15 or

 He or she may check the outside of your genitals and do a
breast exam.
 A pap test and pelvic exam may be done if you have been
sexually active
 Pap test: taking cells from cervix to check for any changes
that could be cancer or that could lead to cancer.
 Pelvic exam: examination of the vulva. May also involve the
doctor looking inside the vagina to check and make sure the
cervix are healthy.

“check up”.

catching things like what may have been cancer just
in time, to prescribing you the best medication for
any diseases that you might have.
 Taking care of your health is a major key to having a
prolonged life, and gynecologist can help.

week of the pregnancy through the 27th week.
 During this week, most women do not have morning
sickness anymore and the baby begins to grow very

around the 20th week. Most describe it as feeling

period.

begin and get stronger as the body preps for birth.
