“Problem Solving in Construction”
The Righter Group recognized that new steel and retrofit projects
needed a corrosion-resistant primer that would protect more
than a typical alkyd or acrylic coating but would be lower in cost
than zinc-rich primers. With help from the representatives in
Boston and NewYork,Tnemec formulated the one-component,
moisture-cured MIO/zinc-filled polyurethane primer, Series
394 PerimePrime, for these applications. In the architectural
market, Series 394 offers superior bonding to marginally
prepared steel and old coatings and is combatable with several
high-performance topcoats, fireproofing systems, and thermal
insulating coatings.

What is the Righter Group?
RIGHTER GROUP INC.
Problem Solving in Construction
5
H. Righter Company opened its doors in 1955 with a drive to supply the construction
industry in the Northeast with the best available products for priming and finishing steel.
Originally founded by creative-minded construction expert, Harold Righter, who partnered
withTnemec Company, H. Righter Company made an immediate impact in the Boston area,
regularly providing coatings for high-profile projects, such as the Longfellow Bridge, the
Federal Reserve Bank, and General Motors’ Framingham Assembly Plant.
Decades later, H. Righter Company combined forces with nearby agencies,Tnemec East
and Righter Interior Surfaces, to cover a larger territory and serve a wider range of clients.
With a constant exchange between Harold Righter andTnemec about the most recent
advancements in coating technology, both companies grew to new heights, providing top-
of-the-line paint from New Jersey to Maine.
Officially renamed Righter Group in 1995, the team has continued to push innovation as
their founder did before them. Righter Group is still one ofTnemec’s top agencies and
a true driving force towards the future, providing the coatings company with needed
intelligence on the desires in the field while building invaluable relationships with satisfied
customers. Now offering products for every modern application, the team at Righter Group
is persistent in its attempts to advance the coatings industry beyond the norm.
Where did the Righter Group come from?
“Problem Solving in Construction”
When the medical industries in New England needed a wall
coating capable of withstanding consistent chemical and
steam cleaning, the team at Righter Group helped introduce
the industry toTnemec’s fiberglass-reinforced Stranlok prod-
ucts. Now installed in hospitals, veterinary and pharmaceutical
facilities across the region, the Stranlok wall system continues
to perform in the toughest environments.

SPOTLIGHT
HAROLDRIGHTER
Who was Harold Righter?
Aside from creating the most knowledgeable paint and coatings team
in New England, Righter Group’s founder and former president was
a visionary that helped shapeTnemec into its current state. Righter
consistently offered his opinions on the needs of the construction industry
and served as a catalyst to the invention of new technology. He made
regular trips to Kansas City – the location ofTnemec’s plant and corporate
office – to relay his findings in the field and became instrumental in the
branding and rebranding of products, such as Series 15 Uni-Bond, a one-
coat rust-inhibitive primer and finish that was applied to overhead decking
across the U.S. Aside from products, Righter’s close connection with the
art community – being an artist and art-lover himself – was a fundamental
reason thatTnemec rebranded itself in the late 1960s, using a new logo,
tagline, and label that originated from his ideas and the design of his close
friend at a Boston marketing firm.

PROJECTSBranded as the first building of the 21st century, the original WorldTrade Center was
completed in 1973. Architecturally, the structure was revolutionary in its concept, design
and engineering. The WorldTrade Center introduced, for the first time, one central
location for government agencies, private firms and international business to take place.
The Righter Group providedTnemec 99 Red Metal Primer for the major portion of the
twin towers’ steel. This coating selection was made because of the product’s durability,
ease of application and abrasion-resistance. With more steel used in this project than the
Golden Gate Bridge, the WorldTrade Center required a sizable amount ofTnemec’s time-
tested primer.
One WorldTrade Center started construction in 2006, and Righter Group was again
chosen to coat the steel for the building.
For the new building, the Righter
Group supplied Series 90-97Tneme-
Zinc for the steel coating. Series 90-97
Tneme-Zinc was chosen because of the
product’s extraordinary performance,
user friendliness and rapid curing ability.
The tallest building in the Western
Hemisphere, One WorldTrade Center
required an enormous amountTneme-
Zinc. Finished in 2014, the structure is
recognized throughout the world and is
also known asThe FreedomTower.

Deemed the largest public assembly hall in the Western Hemisphere during its construction,The
Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in NewYork is a remarkable example of space frame technology.
During the original construction between 1981 and 1985, the steel space frame was primed and
protected with shop-applied Series 66 Epoxoline. The Righter Group sold more than 16,000 gallons
of Series 66, applied to the exposed steel space frame consisting of 76,000 individual pipe tubes and
19,000 connecting nodes. Series 90-93Tneme-Zinc was also used to prime coat the support columns
throughout the structure. The initial structure was a sophisticated, three-dimensional engineering
design that was made popular by I.M. Pei in the 1980s.
Thirty years after the original construction,The Jacob K. Javits Convention Center underwent a
$463 million renovation and again chose the Righter Group to coat the steel. The renovated center
has been used to host the biggest events in NewYork, and is known for its spectacular views. For
the renovation, the structural frame and underside deck were modernized and recoated with nearly
12,000 gallons of light gray Series 115 Uni-Bond DF.This product was chosen because it provides
high-performance corrosion resistance and reduces the potential for overspray issues. The structural
steel outside the building was primed with Series 90-97, followed by a coat of Series 27 F.C.Typoxy
and finished with Series 73 Endura-Shield.The Javits Center is now considered one of the busiest
convention centers in the United States and its construction has paved the way for limitless
geometric design possibilities in convention centers.

PROJECTSBetter known as the horizontal skyscraper, Center Plaza is a distinctive mixed-use complex
located in downtown Boston.Totaling 717,128 square feet, Center Plaza is unlike traditional high-
rise office towers because it’s much longer horizontally than it is vertically. Built between 1965
and 1969, the horizontal skyscraper is nine-stories high and can provide up to 75,000 square feet
of continuous office space on any one floor. The multipurpose skyscraper is situated between City
Hall Plaza and Pemberton Square in Boston’s Financial District. Center Plaza occupies 900 square
feet of retail along Cambridge Street, and its location makes it an attractive option for occupants
that require office space near government buildings, hospitals and financial buildings.
The Righter Group providedTnemec 99 Red Metal Primer to coat the enormous amount of steel
used in the skyscraper for the original construction. Center Plaza is so long that it stretches the
length of a 90-story building, and is made up of three interconnected structures that are arranged
in an arced shape. The complex has floor plates, high ceilings and hundreds of windows that
offer natural light and views from all floors. Center Plaza was extremely modern for its time, and
the Righter Group had a part in constructing a building that’s been termed a unique architectural
expression of beauty, grace and purpose.

Built in 1967, the north terminal in the Boston-Logan International Airport was an innovative
example of wedding glass, concrete and steel. Located in Boston, Massachusetts, the design of
the building was meant to give the feeling of soaring flight simply from its appearance. With a
wing concept on the roof, the architectural design of the terminal was unquestionably modern for
its time.
During the time of this construction, the Righter Group was known as H. Righter Company, Inc.
For this project, the company recommendedTnemec 99 Red Metal Primer for the steel. Eighteen
hundred tons of steel were used to construct the north terminal and the amount of steel used
allowed for 125,000 square feet of floor space in two stories, alongside electric stairways and
elevators. Due to the innovative design of the building, the steel had to be curved to different
radii. This was an engineering feet, and allowed for the crescent shaped roof trusses.
The $9,500,000 structure was expensive for its time and it afforded a substantial amount of glass
windows which gave passengers unobstructed views of field operations and flying planes. While
the Righter Group has changed its name, the northern terminal at the Boston-Logan International
Airport has stayed relatively the same for the last 48 years.

“Problem Solving in Construction”
In 2012,Tnemec introduced a thermal insulating coating
formulated with aerogel particles – the first of its kind in the
nation. With the help of Righter Group, Aerolon was integrated
into several new markets when it was discovered that the
spray-applied coating could perform better than other widely
used construction products. By controlling condensation and
surface temperature, Aerolon can be used as a non-structural
thermal break on wall or roof penetrations, such as I-beams,
fins, roof davits, parapets, or window frames.

Righter Company made an immediate impact in the Boston area, regularly providing coatings for high-profile projects, such as the Longfellow Bridge, the Federal Reserve Bank, and General Motors’ Framingham Assembly Plant. Decades later, H. Righter Company combined forces with nearby agencies,Tnemec East and Righter Interior Surfaces, to cover a larger territory and serve a wider range of clients. With a constant exchange between Harold Righter andTnemec about the most recent advancements in coating technology, both companies grew to new heights, providing top- of-the-line paint from New Jersey to Maine. Officially renamed Righter Group in 1995, the team has continued to push innovation as their founder did before them. Righter Group is still one ofTnemec’s top agencies and a true driving force towards the future, providing the coatings company with needed intelligence on the desires in the field while building invaluable relationships with satisfied customers. Now offering products for every modern application, the team at Righter Group is persistent in its attempts to advance the coatings industry beyond the norm. Where did the Righter Group come from? “Problem Solving in Construction” When the medical industries in New England needed a wall coating capable of withstanding consistent chemical and steam cleaning, the team at Righter Group helped introduce the industry toTnemec’s fiberglass-reinforced Stranlok prod- ucts. Now installed in hospitals, veterinary and pharmaceutical facilities across the region, the Stranlok wall system continues to perform in the toughest environments.
  • 8. 6 SPOTLIGHT HAROLDRIGHTER Who was Harold Righter? Aside from creating the most knowledgeable paint and coatings team in New England, Righter Group’s founder and former president was a visionary that helped shapeTnemec into its current state. Righter consistently offered his opinions on the needs of the construction industry and served as a catalyst to the invention of new technology. He made regular trips to Kansas City – the location ofTnemec’s plant and corporate office – to relay his findings in the field and became instrumental in the branding and rebranding of products, such as Series 15 Uni-Bond, a one- coat rust-inhibitive primer and finish that was applied to overhead decking across the U.S. Aside from products, Righter’s close connection with the art community – being an artist and art-lover himself – was a fundamental reason thatTnemec rebranded itself in the late 1960s, using a new logo, tagline, and label that originated from his ideas and the design of his close friend at a Boston marketing firm. • 12. 10 PROJECTSBranded as the first building of the 21st century, the original WorldTrade Center was completed in 1973. Architecturally, the structure was revolutionary in its concept, design and engineering. The WorldTrade Center introduced, for the first time, one central location for government agencies, private firms and international business to take place. The Righter Group providedTnemec 99 Red Metal Primer for the major portion of the twin towers’ steel. This coating selection was made because of the product’s durability, ease of application and abrasion-resistance. With more steel used in this project than the Golden Gate Bridge, the WorldTrade Center required a sizable amount ofTnemec’s time- tested primer. One WorldTrade Center started construction in 2006, and Righter Group was again chosen to coat the steel for the building. For the new building, the Righter Group supplied Series 90-97Tneme- Zinc for the steel coating. Series 90-97 Tneme-Zinc was chosen because of the product’s extraordinary performance, user friendliness and rapid curing ability. The tallest building in the Western Hemisphere, One WorldTrade Center required an enormous amountTneme- Zinc. Finished in 2014, the structure is recognized throughout the world and is also known asThe FreedomTower. World Trade Centers
  • 13. 11 Deemed the largest public assembly hall in the Western Hemisphere during its construction,The Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in NewYork is a remarkable example of space frame technology. During the original construction between 1981 and 1985, the steel space frame was primed and protected with shop-applied Series 66 Epoxoline. The Righter Group sold more than 16,000 gallons of Series 66, applied to the exposed steel space frame consisting of 76,000 individual pipe tubes and 19,000 connecting nodes. Series 90-93Tneme-Zinc was also used to prime coat the support columns throughout the structure. The initial structure was a sophisticated, three-dimensional engineering design that was made popular by I.M. Pei in the 1980s. Thirty years after the original construction,The Jacob K. Javits Convention Center underwent a $463 million renovation and again chose the Righter Group to coat the steel. The renovated center has been used to host the biggest events in NewYork, and is known for its spectacular views. For the renovation, the structural frame and underside deck were modernized and recoated with nearly 12,000 gallons of light gray Series 115 Uni-Bond DF.This product was chosen because it provides high-performance corrosion resistance and reduces the potential for overspray issues. The structural steel outside the building was primed with Series 90-97, followed by a coat of Series 27 F.C.Typoxy and finished with Series 73 Endura-Shield.The Javits Center is now considered one of the busiest convention centers in the United States and its construction has paved the way for limitless geometric design possibilities in convention centers. • 14. 12 PROJECTSBetter known as the horizontal skyscraper, Center Plaza is a distinctive mixed-use complex located in downtown Boston.Totaling 717,128 square feet, Center Plaza is unlike traditional high- rise office towers because it’s much longer horizontally than it is vertically. Built between 1965 and 1969, the horizontal skyscraper is nine-stories high and can provide up to 75,000 square feet of continuous office space on any one floor. The multipurpose skyscraper is situated between City Hall Plaza and Pemberton Square in Boston’s Financial District. Center Plaza occupies 900 square feet of retail along Cambridge Street, and its location makes it an attractive option for occupants that require office space near government buildings, hospitals and financial buildings. The Righter Group providedTnemec 99 Red Metal Primer to coat the enormous amount of steel used in the skyscraper for the original construction. Center Plaza is so long that it stretches the length of a 90-story building, and is made up of three interconnected structures that are arranged in an arced shape. The complex has floor plates, high ceilings and hundreds of windows that offer natural light and views from all floors. Center Plaza was extremely modern for its time, and the Righter Group had a part in constructing a building that’s been termed a unique architectural expression of beauty, grace and purpose. • 15. 13 Built in 1967, the north terminal in the Boston-Logan International Airport was an innovative example of wedding glass, concrete and steel. Located in Boston, Massachusetts, the design of the building was meant to give the feeling of soaring flight simply from its appearance. With a wing concept on the roof, the architectural design of the terminal was unquestionably modern for its time. During the time of this construction, the Righter Group was known as H. Righter Company, Inc. For this project, the company recommendedTnemec 99 Red Metal Primer for the steel. Eighteen hundred tons of steel were used to construct the north terminal and the amount of steel used allowed for 125,000 square feet of floor space in two stories, alongside electric stairways and elevators. Due to the innovative design of the building, the steel had to be curved to different radii. This was an engineering feet, and allowed for the crescent shaped roof trusses. The $9,500,000 structure was expensive for its time and it afforded a substantial amount of glass windows which gave passengers unobstructed views of field operations and flying planes. While the Righter Group has changed its name, the northern terminal at the Boston-Logan International Airport has stayed relatively the same for the last 48 years. Boston-Logan International Airport

  • 17. 15 “Problem Solving in Construction” In 2012,Tnemec introduced a thermal insulating coating formulated with aerogel particles – the first of its kind in the nation. With the help of Righter Group, Aerolon was integrated into several new markets when it was discovered that the spray-applied coating could perform better than other widely used construction products. By controlling condensation and surface temperature, Aerolon can be used as a non-structural thermal break on wall or roof penetrations, such as I-beams, fins, roof davits, parapets, or window frames.
