Not about nostalgia. I haven't played on an actual Atari console. Ever.
The problem is, I don't trust stories. Sure, they are entertaining and delightful to hear but they're not facts.
Only the strongest culture survives to tell its stories. This is nature. Yes, I believe that we should let culture evolve on its own. But surely we have enough bandwidth now to record all our past.
In the future our grandchildren will be discussing games like we discuss our literature and films.
Do you really want a Japanese to make a game about New Zealand? (New Zealand Story) Or about China (Dynasty Warriors)?
I don't know. Because my country's game history only dates back to at most 10 years ago. And that time we are already speaking in the language of the dominant Japanese/Western perspective in game creation. That's why I'm making a game for an obsolete console.
Because I want to experience these stories for myself. I want to see what it's like to be there when gaming was on it's diapers. I want to make a game. Print it on a cartridge. So that in the future, when someone is researching the origins of Filipino Video Games I will hand one to them. And they will know that we were there from the very beginning.
