2. Personal My name is Julie Swindler. I was born and raised in Provo, UT,
where I still live—about a block away from my dad (my mom
passed away three years ago).
I live with my husband (Phil), three of my four children, and a
ferret named Fiona.
Some of my favorite things to do:
● Reading fiction (anything with a really great story)
● Laughing with my husband and children (we are all weirdly
hilarious—or so I’m told by my daughter-in-law)
● Playing the piano
● Crafting (sewing and making felted wool dryer balls)
● Spending time with my extended familyFamily Photo 2014
3. Professional I worked for a few years out of college as a technical
writer for Shipley Associates and then Franklin Covey.
One of my projects as a tech writer was to rewrite part of
the construction manual for the Georgia DOT—the
section on concrete and bridges. I learned everything I
never wanted to know about pouring concrete and
setting pylons.
I am currently working two part-time jobs:
● I am the piano accompanist for the choirs at a
secondary charter school, and I love it!
● I just hired on with Addx Corporation to do some
instructional design for a training module we are
creating for the FAA. I’m drowning in acronyms!Snoqualmie Falls 2014
4. Educational
I earned my Bachelor’s Degree in English from Brigham Young University in 1994.
I received my first Mom degree in 1996, followed by three more Mom degrees in 1999,
2003, and 2008. I have spent the last 22 years deeply involved in applied research for each
of these degrees.
In 2015 I decided it was time for me to go back to school, so I began the process of applying
to USU. I started classes in the MLTID program in Fall of 2016. I’m hoping to graduate next
year, if all goes as planned.
5. Future Plans and Random Trivia
● My plan is to work as an instructional designer, creating various types of training
(preferably electronic). My job with Addx should give me a good feel for the work.
● In my family of origin, I am the only one of my parents’ children whose name does not
start with “K.”
● I know I already mentioned this, but how random is it that I have a pet ferret? She is
lively, curious, and a fun pet. My children adore her.
