Recommendation Letter from Vickie
1. October 8, 2009
South Piedmont Community College
681 Hwy. 74 West
Polkton, NC 28135
Dear Hiring Committee:
This letter is my personal recommendation for Ms. Julie Griffin. Until just recently, I have been Julie’s
immediate supervisor for four years. I have always found her to be a dedicated and hard working person
in
the Financial Aid Office at South Piedmont Community College.
Besides being a joy to work with, Julie is a self-starter who always performs her job duties with diligence
and accuracy. Julie serves as a financial aid technician who counsels students on the various aspects of
applying and getting financial aid. The financial aid process is sometimes confusing for students and
Julie does a beautiful job of simplifying it. Julie is extremely compassionate towards the students and
always listens to their concerns and problems. However, Julie’s main responsibility is to process and
award federal and state financial aid. The delivery of federal and state aid involves many steps including
but not Limited to: importing files from the Department of Education into Datatel (the computer system
utilized by South Piedmont), running and maintaining Communication Management in Datatel, verifying
student aid information, awarding federal and state aid in Datatel, disbursing student checks, writing
queries for Datatel, running Satisfactory Academic Progress in Datatel, and last but certainly not least,
the overall setup and maintenance of the Financial Aid Module in Colleague (Datatel).
In order to perform all of the duties mentioned above, one must possess a thorough understanding of
the federal and state regulations that govern financial aid. Julie does a wonderful job of keeping current
with the many rules and regulations. The financial aid office is audited by state and federal auditors
every three years.
Julie has been able to accomplish many goals while working in the financial aid office at South Piedmont.
I believe her proudest moment has been when she was successful in implementing Communication
Management
after only working in the financial aid office for 1 year. This is a very complicated system with many
nuances
and Julie accomplished this very difficult task on her own and in a very short period of time. She is
extremely adept at
solving computer related problems. Her knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and PC’s in general is vast.
I highly recommend Julie for employment. She is extremely reliable and dedicated to her job.
I am certain that she will be an asset to you and your company.
Sincerely,
Vickie Cameron
