I write this letter recommending Julia Lefkovits for a position in higher education
finance. As the manager of New York State Higher Education Services Corporation’s
(HESC) TAP and Scholarships Payments Unit, I deal with Ms. Lefkovits regularly. She
plays an integral role in our joint administration of New York State’s Leaders of
Tomorrow Scholarship (“LOT”). She has been HESC’s primary contact at the Capital
Area School Development Agency (“CASDA”) during the past three years.
Julia always conducts herself professionally with members of my staff on a
regular basis to facilitate communication between HESC, LOT recipients and their
colleges and universities. My staff and I rely on Julia to ensure LOT recipients and their
schools adhere to the program’s policies and eligibility requirements. She is instrumental
in ensuring students, their high schools and colleges comply with the LOT program’s
requirements. I was pleased with how quickly Ms. Lefkovits grasped state grant and
scholarship eligibility requirements; particularly as they relate to the good academic
standing requirements for the LOT program.
Ms. Lefkovits’ tenacity and willingness to learn the technical aspects of HESC’s
electronic file transfer system allowed CASDA to utilize the reports we provided,
facilitating our co-administration of the LOT program with her employer. Julia is also
responsible for transmitting electronic recipient lists and revoke lists to HESC for
processing. She was both timely and consistent with her file transfers.
It is without hesitation that I recommend Julia for a position in higher education
finance. Her professionalism, attention to detail and ability to grasp complicated
