The document discusses stereotypes related to ethnicity, age, and gender that are portrayed in media. It then analyzes how a thriller film opening scene portrays these stereotypes.
For ethnicity, African British people are often stereotyped as criminals, while white British people are seen as wealthy and powerful. The scene initially shows the African British kidnapper committing a crime against a white victim, aligning with stereotypes, but challenging the stereotype of white male power.
For age, teenagers are usually seen as moody and uncaring. However, the teenage victim in the scene displays fear and asks for help, going against stereotypes.
For gender, males are typically depicted as aggressive and dominant.

2. Ethnicity:
Stereotypes of ethnicity: African British: their stereotype is being in a gang, a threat to society
and causing crimes. White British: their stereotype is being dominate over other ethnicities and
having wealth. Latino: their stereotype is being associated with drugs, illegally being in a country
and being house cleaners or gardeners.
In our Thriller opening we show African British and white British. How we first show the African
British as not challenging the stereotype against his Ethnicity. He is committing a crime of
abduction. This goes with the stereotype of African British people are called as thugs and gang
bangers. But because it shows him over powering a White British male it goes against his
ethnicity class as White British male are supposed be powerful and greater than African British.
When we show the White British male it goes with the stereotype of them being wealthy as it
shows a close up shot having one of the latest's phones in his possession. Further on in our
thriller film it shows our victim (White British male) being pushed around and over powered by
our Abductor.
3. Age:
The stereotypes of ages: children are considered to being; a burden, easily amused, annoying and
loud. Teenagers are considered to have the stereotype of; moody, arrogant, lazy, selfish,
unamused and uncaring. The way that mature adults are seen in the media eye is being; wealthy,
powerful, wise, in control of other ages, bossy and caring. The way that the elderly are perceived
is; being a burden, wise, weak, venerable, clumsy, forgetful and quite.
Age has been showed in our media thriller film when our victim has come to from being
assaulted by a strike to the head. It goes against the stereotype that teens do not care about
things due to our victim shows his heart increasing by the more breath intake and the facial
expression on his face by the close up shots shown. Also shown when our kidnapper disappears
our victim gets scared he goes to call ‘999’. It goes against the stereotype of our teenage victim
when he asks for directions from the Abductor because shows that he is unbothered of asking a
stranger a question.
4. Gender:
The gender stereotypes for male and female are: for males; dominate, breadwinner, strong,
protective, aggressive. For females; passive, weak, caring, stay at home.
The stereotypes show for gender in our thriller piece is that when our victim has been attacked
by our kidnapper it shows the stereotype of males being aggressive. When our victim is being
pushed around by our kidnapper shows that the victim goes against the stereotype because it
shows that he is weak. The Kidnapper showing three types of the stereotypes when theses shots
our presented to the viewers because one it shows that the kidnapper is dominate over our
victim and two it shows strength and three shows aggression.
