INT. NOAH'S BEDROOM.EVENING.
'The Biggest Lie' by Elliott Smith plays.
A messy bedroom. There are clothes on the ground, cardboard
boxes around, and an open suitcase on the floor. NOAH- a
teenage boy with bleached blond hair and of medium height-
takes clothes from his closet and sets them neatly folded in
the suitcase. This is a boring task that he clearly does not
want to do. His facial expressions indicate exhaustion and
irritation. He sits down on the floor, next to the suitcase,
resting his back on the side of the bed, and puts his face in
his hands with a sigh.

EXT.BUS SHELTER.MORNING, DAY.
A wide empty street with a tatty bus shelter. In the
distance, NOAH can be seen leaning against a lamp post,
smoking a cigarette. He is wearing normal clothes. He is
waiting, and checks his phone repeatedly.
Music bridges.
TITLE OF FILM: 'CHANGE' appears on screen.
TITLE OF FILM fades out.
HUGO, another teenage male character walks into frame. He is
in his uniform. He is holding a skateboard. Both characters
make eye contact.
HUGO
Hey.
They go in for a quick handshake.
HUGO
I'm surprised. Skipping school? That's
not like you.
NOAH
Shut up.
NOAH takes a toke of his cigarette. The cigarette crackles.
My mum moved forward the dates for the
train, so... I have to leave tomorrow
instead of next week.
HUGO
What? Are you fucking kidding me?

NOAH
I wish I was mate.
HUGO
What the fuck is wrong with her? Fuck
this.
NOAH shrugs and takes another toke of his cigarette again.
HUGO is visibly very upset and sits down under the shelter of
the bus, looking down.
HUGO
So, it's your last day here then?
NOAH
Guess so.
HUGO
Jesus.
NOAH then sits down next to HUGO. He offers him his
cigarette. Hugo takes it and inhales. NOAH is transfixed on
HUGO. A beat. He hands the cigarette back to Noah, who
finishes it, then tosses it on the side of the road. They
both sit in silence for a moment, looking out to the
distance, then looking at each other.
HUGO
You know- funniest thing happened. So
I got your text, and Ms Edwards caught
me jumping the school gate, right. So
she tried to run after me. But she
couldn't get past the gate and she was
just cursing at me. It was fucking
hilarious. You should've seen her face
man.
They both laugh and Noah shakes his head. They share a look.
NOAH
You should've recorded it for me.
HUGO
Nah it was better in person, the
camera wouldn't've done it justice.
NOAH
[Still laughing] If I had known I
wouldn't have missed it.
A beat.

walking next to him.

turned. It is slowly becoming darker outside. This time NOAH
is attempting to skate and HUGO is helping him.

NOAH is smoking. They are walking down a park in London.
7 7
EXT. NIGHT.

It is HUGO's house. HUGO takes his keys and opens it while
NOAH observes.

INT. HUGO'S BEDROOM. LATE EVENING/NIGHT.
A typical teenage bedroom: there are posters and photographs
on the wall, clothes on the floor, a messy desk, rubbish,
instruments (including a drum set and an electric bass). It
is night time outside. The boys are sitting on the bed. There
are bottles of beer and they have clearly drank a little bit.
NOAH
[Nodding his head to the guitar] You
ever play this? [He stands up as he
says this, and grabs the guitar after
putting his drink down.] I've known
you for what... Six years? and I've
never seen you play it.

HUGO
[Chuckles] I guess I do sometimes.
It's embarrassing to start now
[shrugging].
NOAH
[Laughs] Sure... [Sits back down,
holding guitar.]
NOAH attempts to play something, but it sounds horrible. HUGO
starts to laugh at him and grimaces.
HUGO
Jesus Christ, please stop.
NOAH
Maybe in another life I could be a
rockstar. Call me Robert Smith.
HUGO
I'm good g, [ruffles his hair] you
don't have the hair.
NOAH
Fair point.
HUGO
Right, give me that. I don't trust you
with it.
HUGO takes the guitar and places it on the floor. They slowly
stop chuckling and continue their drinks. A beat.
NOAH
[Looking around the room] Aw man...
this is kind of the last time I'll
ever be here.
HUGO
What do you mean?
NOAH
Like, in your room. It's kind of the
last time I'll be here.
HUGO
What? You better come and visit.
NOAH
I will, you know I will. It just...
won't be the same, will it?

HUGO takes another sip of his beer. Tension builds up.
HUGO
Do you ever feel scared? Of like, the
future and that.
NOAH
[Looking down at his drink] Don't even
start. I don't even wanna believe that
it's real you know?
HUGO
I get you. I really don't want you to
leave. I'm not just saying that.
NOAH
I don't wanna leave either. I don't
wanna become a doctor, you know? I
don't know why my parents are so
obsessed with this idea that I can be
something great. I'll have a whole new
life and I think I should be grateful
for it, but I really don't want it. I
don't wanna be a fucking doctor. And I
don't wanna live with my family and I
don't wanna leave London, and I don't
wanna have to get used to a whole
other city and make new friends
and...I don't wanna leave you.
Everything's gonna change.
HUGO
It doesn't have to.
NOAH
But it will.
'Perfect Day' by Lou Reed plays in the background.
They look at each other for a moment. Subtle tension. NOAH
finishes his beer and places it on the side. Then, he lies
down on the bed. HUGO copies him. They share a look.
HUGO
I'll miss you, you know?
NOAH
I'll miss you too.
NOAH places his head on HUGO's shoulder.
