Bullying is a serious problem in Ecuador that affects many students. According to surveys, 64% of minors aged 8-17 have witnessed violent disputes between students. Common types of bullying in Ecuador include discrimination, insults, and mocking. Bullying has been shown to lower students' grades in math and literature. While some schools have anti-bullying programs, they are often ineffective at preventing bullying. To properly address the issue, more schools need effective anti-bullying policies and interventions.

2. Bullying is a serious topic, especially because of its effects on people´s life.
Bullying is primarily focused on young people. Most sufferers from bullying
are either kids or teens, maybe some young adults, but it´s really hard to find
bullying cases in adults. Bullying can be physical or psychological. Physical
bullying is when a person´s body integrity is harmed, while psychological
bullying is when a person´s mind is attacked, making the victim to stop seeing
themselves as someone with value, lose all of their moral strength, get stressed
and depressed. Bullying is suffered by many people, and it should be stopped
with any means necessary, but the focus on this essay will be bullying in
Ecuador.
According to “ENNA”, (“Encuesta Nacional de la Niñez y Adolescencia”),
64% of minors from 8 to 17 years old, who study at any kind of institution have
been in presence of student disputes, which ended violently. 63% of the bullying
cases are because of discrimination, and 74% of the cases just getting as far as
insults or mocking. The “CEPAL” determined that because of bullying, most
students have low grades in both math and literature. It has also be shown that
physical and psychological bullying have divided into new categories being
verbal, emotional and cybernetic; and sexual and physical. With all of this
recompiled data, you can get an idea on how bad of an issue bullying is.
Napoleón Vásquez, a psychologist and director of educational psychological
programs, after polling 900 students from 25 education institutions and using
the cases that have been treated by him as reference, estimated that 50% of
bullying victims lower their grades because of the stress and fear the bully
causes in them.
Some schools in Quito, like the “Colegio Menor”, “Fundación Colegio
Americano” and “Colegio Terranova”, have bullying prevention programs.
“Colegio Menor”´s anti bullying prevention strategy is part of their rules as an
institution. Bullying is completely rejected by school authorities, so if there´s
any case of bullying there will be serious consequences, ranging from low
discipline grades to an expulsion from the school. “Fundación Colegio
Americano”´s bullying prevention program is just like “Colegio Menor”´s. It is
in the school´s rules, but it has been proven ineffective, as the most famous and
publicly known cases come from this institution. “Colegio Terranova” handles
bullying in a similar but different way. They have an Anti-Bullying Policy,
which is controlled by its own manual of rules. It uses both students and school
3. authorities as means for bullying control. Most schools in Ecuador, and even
the world, should have anti-bullying programs or policies that actually work.
