TED 1:Elora hardy:magical houses,made of bamboo.
link: https://www.ted.com/talks/elora_hardy_magical_houses_made_of_bamboo
I chose thisTED talk because Ilike howsome people chase theirdreams.Ilove tosee how people
buildthingsina differentway.A waythat we cannotimagine here inBelgium.ThisTEDtalkreally
blewmymindbecause we don’tknowbambooasa buildingmaterial ,certainlynot forhouses. It
appearsthat bamboo, isverystrong. It has the tensile strengthof steel andthe compressive strength
of concrete.It’salsoverylighttobuildwith.It’samaterial that growsveryfastand it’searthquake
resistant.Thisisa newwayof buildinghomes,actuallynobecause theydidthisalreadyfordecades
but the buildingsalmostall vanishedbecause bamboodidn’tlastthatlong.Whathas changed? They
treat the bamboobefore usingitsoit can resistwaterandwindand muchmore. It’sa buildingtool
that isveryelegantandbeautiful tosee.
Thisreallyinspiredme becauseitlookslike anartto create somethinglike thisandwhenahouse is
done buildingthe viewismindblowing.
Here you can see thattheyneedto follow the curvesfromthe bambooitselfsoeverybamboostickis
differentfromthe nextone.Whichmakesitverychallengingtofindthe rightpiecesandtocreate
somethingasone piece .These projectsare completedinMali soI hope I can visitone daya building
like thisbecause breathtakingitis.
TED2 : Marc Kushner:Whythe buildingsof the future will be shapedby…you

ou
I chose thisTED talkbecause I’mveryinterestedinarchitecture.Fromhousestodifferentweird
architectural construction.Marc talksaboutthe architecture inthe past 30 years,he is a veryfluent
speakerandisfun to listentobecause he tellsthingsaboutthe thoughtsof people. He’svery
passionate howhe talksabouthisTED talk.He explainshow people changedthinkingaboutbuildings
over30 years.Social mediahaschangedthe connectionbetweenpeople butalsogave anadvantage
for architects. Theycan use ideas/feelingsandemotionsfrompeople tocreate new buildings. The
use of Instagram, twitterandothersocial mediamade itpossible tocome closerwiththe people. The
architectsfromthe nextbuildingbelow, usedall thosesocial mediatocreate a certainfeelingof
appreciationforthe buildingevenbefore itwasthere.Theymanagedto“manipulate”the peoples
mindand showedhowitcouldbe whenthe buildingwasfinished.
From picturesmade forthe social mediaplatformstothe wayit waswhenthe buildingwas
opened.(below),people knew whattheycouldexpectandlivedinthe moment.Theywere not
shockedbythe newformsor materials, because itwasalreadyapart of the community(through
social media).
It the past thiswas verydifficultbecause peopledidn’texpectsomethingcompletelynew.Something
extraordinaryorshocking.People were goingtotalkabouthow uglythe buildingwas, butnow all
that has changed. Nowarchitectscancreate a show aroundthe buildingbefore itisevenbuildand
howthe buildingshouldbe inthe society.A buildingdoesn’tneedtobe beautifulbutloveable.The
buildingsdon’treflectthe societythe shape oursociety. He sayswe need toworktogethertocreate
betterbuildingsabettersocietyanda betterworld.
Personal opinion
In mypointof viewthiswasa verygoodTED presentationhe explainedeverythingandshowedmany
examples.Socialmediaisthe future forarchitectstocreate a feelingaboutsomethingthatdoesn’t
yetexist.Thatveryinterestingbecause sometimesbuildingsdon’tfitinasocietyandthroughsocial
mediapeople cangive opinionsandcriticisms.
TED3: Avi Reichental:What’snextin3Dprinting.
Link:http://www.ted.com/talks/avi_reichental_what_s_next_in_3d_printing
ThisTED talkis about3D printing.Whatgot myattentionwasthat I didn’talwaysunderstoodthe
personthat good.Probablybecause Englishwasnothisnative language.Alsothathe doesn’tlookto
the publicbutjustruns aroundin circlesonthe stage.Besidesthatthiswasalsoan inspirational and
interestingTEDtalk.What newthingsare possible with3Dprinting.Productslike buildingasuitfor
people whoare paralysedintheirlegs.Suitsthathelpthemtowalkagain .Can be made possible
with3D printingandwitha muchlowercost. Making new unique designsforlegprostheses.
Productswhocan be sentto space. The possibilitiesare endlesslywhichinspiredme andshocked
me.Because I didn’tknewhowfarthistechnologyalreadystood.It’sdifficulttoimagine how all this
worksbecause thisisall newtechnology,probablyin20 yearsall thiswill be normal.Butfor now it’s
somethingtolookforwardto. It will be possible forall peopletomake theirownfantasies.Making
shoeswill be possible withnorestrictionsattached.
Such as these above, alsomade bya 3D printerwithaunique design. If we looktothe pastthiswill
be somethingrevolutionaryforthe world.Somethingthatwill keepgrowingovertime.AndI’m
curiouswhatthe future still holdsforus.
