customers’mostrecentreadings.
I thenlookat the readinghistoryof eachof these customerstodecide whetherthe variance islikely
to be for an innocuousreason(e.g.anew meterhasbeeninstalled,the building’soccupantshave
changed,itis knownthatthere wasan error ina previousreading,the customer’susage isonly
marginallydifferenttotheirhistorical averageorthe buildingisusedforatype of businessinwhich
waterusage is likelytofluctuate) orwhetherthe variance issymptomaticof anerror inthe latest
reading,the wrongmeterbeingreadorthe buildinghavingaleak.Inmostcases,a photoof the
meterwhichhasbeenreadis available (althoughthe photosare notalwaysclear),soI use that as a
tool to gauge whetherthe readingandthe selectionof meterreadare correct.
If it seemsthere isanerror inthe latestreadingorthe wrongmeterhas beenread,I arrange for
someone tomake a secondcheck.If it seemsthere maybe a leak,Ialerta higherauthoritytomake
furtherinvestigations.
AnotherdutyI performisinputtingad-hocreadingsintoHiAffinity.These readingsare the resultof
readersvisitingmetersof customerswhohave disputedtheirinitialreading.Ifindthe information
on TemetraandthenvisitHiAffinitytoinputthe date,new readingandthe name of the readerand
to ticka box whichsaysthe eventiscleared.
