I am applyingto your Company for a 12 month placement for year three of my four year University Business and
Management degree.
I am a confident, reliableand forward thinkingsecond year Business and Management undergraduate studyingat
the University of the West of England. In my firstyear I achieved a high 2:1 grade, in my second year a 1st.I have
won a placeon the Vice Chancellors StudentLeadership programme, from which I will gain an Instituteof
Leadership and Management, (ILM) level three qualification.
I have experience of working in customer facingand serviceroles,gained through part-time work whilststudying
at school.I have always been a very keen participantin many different sports.I was Club Captain of my Town
football club for fiveyears, was player of the year every season and was presented with a special award by the club
for my services.I also represented Monmouthshire County for four seasons.I always gavemy best in both training
and on the field and very much believed in leadingothers by example. I played hard and played to win, but always
treated others with fairness and respect. I have no doubt that I bringthese sameskillsof commitment, leadership
and teamwork to the work environment. I am an adaptableand resilientindividual who has excellentinterpersonal
skills who finds iteasy to get alongwith people.
Early in my firstyear at University I was rushed to hospital with a lifethreatening caseof a ruptured appendix and
severe peritonitis.The surgeon operating, told me later that it was the worst casehis team had ever seen. I spent
the next two months in hospital recovering.After my recovery I returned to University to seek adviceon all the
missed coursework, assignments and examinations.The advicefrom all quarters was pretty much unanimous,I
had missed far too much and to catch up was simply notpractical,I should drop out and restart the followingyear.
I was determined to prove everybody wrong and I spent the next few months catchingup on missed assignments
and examinations alongsideexistingcoursework.In effect doing doublethe work of a normal student. I passed my
firstyear with a high 2:1 grade. This total determination to succeed under the most difficultand pressured
circumstances gives an insightinto what I have to offer as an individual.I haveachieved an overall gradeof a 1 st in
my second year.
I have many years of experience in the work place,working where ever possibleduringand alongsidemy
education. I have worked in retail,the licensed and events trades and have also worked as a filmextra. I worked in
these areas not justbecauseI wanted to be self-sufficientfundingthings such as holidaysabroad,butbecauseI
genuinely enjoyed the experience. All of these parttime jobs had two thing in common; I was well liked and
enjoyed good relationshipswith the different team members includingmanagement and as a quick learner I was
called upon to help train and guide new recruits.
Duringmy firsttwo years at University I have developed skillsand expertisein various areas of Business
Management such as research,marketing, project development, events and presentations all of which add value
to me as a potential recruitfor your Company.
