By John Guandolo
2. Introduction
• Aside from serving as the vice president of strategic
planning with the Strategic Engagement Group, John
Guandolo supports such nonprofits as the National
Multiple Sclerosis (MS) Society. In contributing to the
organization, John Guandolo assists it in its mission of
developing new treatments for MS and advocating for
legislation that supports neurological diseases research.
Most recently, the National MS Society has called on its
volunteers and donors to support the Advancing
Research for Neurological Diseases Act of 2015. A
component of the US House of Representatives’ 21st
Century Cures Act, the bill would implement a system to
monitor neurological diseases like MS.

• Using the data provided by the new system, researchers
across the country can come one step closer to a cure for
MS and other related conditions.
In September 2015, the US Senate held a briefing on the
bill and positioned it for inclusion in the moving
Innovations Initiative. At the briefing, several
individuals with neurological diseases spoke, including
one of the two lead sponsors of the bill, Georgia senator
Johnny Isakson, who has Parkinson’s disease. To learn
