MORE THAN A BOND SERVANT?
Adonai Tzva’ot, The Lord of Hosts, says to us, “What kind of servant are you willing to be? Will you listen and apply My Blood to every aspect of My Living Word?
For I AM Mediator, The Sprinkled Blood Who Speaks better than that of Abel.” Hebrews 12: 24
Beloved Remnant, covered by The Precious Blood of Christ, we say and sing to Abba, Father, the Words He urges us to repeat back to Him frequently at Jeremiah
33: 3, “Abba, Father (call to me) show us great and unsearchable things we do not know.” The Lord commands us to speak this to Him in the Tanakh, the Old
Testament, then how much more by the Blood of His only Son Who laid His Life down for us, giving us the free gift of Eternal Life? Let us proclaim it that The
Lord would use us to bring the lost to Himself, coming against the powers of darkness, for HIS Glory! Hallelu Yah!
Many Christians are not aware of the meaning of ‘Bond Servant.’ The Lord revealed this to me many years ago, but now I’m more ‘like clay in Potter’s Hands,’
He has humbled me greatly by making me begin to realize how little value and emphasis I’ve given Him. TRUTH, and HE, The Holy Word IS TRUTH, is about to
change your life. Consider Matthew 18: 1-7 CJB: 1At that moment the talmidim (disciples) came to Yeshua Jesus and asked, “Who is the greatest in the Kingdom
of Heaven?” 2He called a child to him, stood him among them, 3and said, “Yes! I tell you that unless you change and become like little children, you won’t
even enter the Kingdom of Heaven! 4So the greatest in the Kingdom is whoever makes himself as humble as this child. 5Whoever welcomes one such child in
my name welcomes me; 6and whoever ensnares one of these little ones who trust me, it would be better for him to have a millstone hung around his neck and
be drowned in the open sea! 7Woe to the world because of snares! For there must be snares, but woe to the person who sets the snare!
Much is written and available about Bond Servants (or Bondservants). Most are very good and factual, but few have sought God’s Definition. It’s important for
us to know the origin of this LIFE AND DEATH matter of servant-hood! So, I quote from gotquestions.org the following:
Question: "What is a bondservant / bond-servant?"
Answer: The word bondservant comes from the Greek word doulos, meaning “one who is subservient to, and entirely at the disposal of, his master; a slave.”
In Roman times, the term bondservant or slave could refer to someone who voluntarily served others. But it usually referred to one who was held in a
permanent position of servitude. Under Roman law, a bondservant was considered the owner’s personal property. Slaves essentially had no rights and could
even be killed with impunity by their owners.
The Hebrew word for “bondservant,” ‘ebed, had a similar connotation. However, the Mosaic Law allowed an indentured servant to become a bondservant
voluntarily: “If the servant declares, ‘I love my master and my wife and children and do not want to go free,’ then his master must take him before the judges. He
shall take him to the door or the doorpost and pierce his ear with an awl. Then he will be his servant for life” (Exodus 21:5-6).
Many prominent men of the Old Testament were referred to as servants. God spoke of Abraham as His servant (Genesis 26:24;Numbers 12:7). Joshua is called
2. Page2
the servant of the Lord (Joshua 24:29), as are David (2 Samuel 7:5) and Isaiah (Isaiah 20:3). Even the Messiah is called God’s Servant (Isaiah 53:11). In all of these
instances, the term servant carries the idea of humble nobility. Being God’s servant is an honorable position.
During the time of Jesus and the first-century church, as much as one third of the Roman population were slaves, and another third had been slaves earlier in
life. It was common for freeborn men and women to work side-by-side with slaves as street sweepers, dockworkers, doctors, teachers, and business managers.
Convicted criminals became bondservants of the state and usually died working in the mines or on galleys.
Historical records reveal that it was not unusual for Jews to own slaves during the New Testament period. Because slavery was a familiar part of the culture,
Jesus sometimes referred to slaves and owners in His parables (e.g.,Matthew 25: 14-30 and Luke 12: 41-48). Also, Jesus taught that the greatest in God’s
kingdom would have to become “the servant of all” (Mark 9:35). Such a concept was unthinkable to a Roman citizen, who prided himself in his freedom and
would never identify himself as a bondservant. But Jesus’ kingdom is not of this world (John 18:36), and the selfish values of earth are of no consequence in
heaven.
Throughout the New Testament, the word bondservant, slave, or servant is applied metaphorically to someone absolutely devoted to Jesus. Paul, Timothy,
James, Peter, and Jude all describe themselves as “bondservants of Christ” (Romans 1:1;Philippians 1:1;James 1:1;2 Peter 1:1;Jude 1:1, NKJV).
Believers today should still consider themselves bondservants or slaves of Christ (1 Corinthians 7:22;Ephesians 6:6;2 Timothy 2:24). He is our Lord, and our
allegiance is due to Him alone. As bondservants, we renounce other masters (Matthew 6:24) and give ourselves totally to Him (Matthew 16:24).
Being a bondservant of Christ is not drudgery. His “burden is light” (Matthew 11:30). Also, we have this promise: “Now that you have been set free from sin and
have become slaves to God, the benefit you reap leads to holiness, and the result is eternal life” (Romans 6:22).

Amazing! Well written, well said! Holy Spirit Who Rules and Reigns, let us proceed! While the New Testament was predominantly written in Greek, its authors
were Hebrews. What did this Greek term ‘Bond Servant’ mean to them?
Let us go back to Exodus 21: 1-6 CJB: “These are the rulings you are to present to them: 2
“If you purchase a Hebrew slave, he is to work six years; but in the
seventh, he is to be given his freedom without having to pay anything. 3
If he came single, he is to leave single; if he was married when he came, his wife is to go
with him when he leaves. 4
But if his master gave him a wife, and she bore him sons or daughters, then the wife and her children will belong to her master,
and he will leave by himself. 5
Nevertheless, if the slave declares, ‘I love my master, my wife and my children, so I don’t want to go free,’6
then his master is
to bring him before God; and there at the door or doorpost, his master is to pierce his ear with an awl; and the man will be his slave for life.

This is NOT an intellectual matter! Yeshua Jesus kept it simple. He, the Sinless Passover Lamb, The Son of God, was deemed the “Suffering Servant” by virtue of
Messiah, as David Stern says in his Jewish New Testament Commentary, regarding Matthew 12: 18, on pa 45: “Isaiah 42 : 1-4 is the first of several “suffering
servant” passages in Isaiah 42 – 53. Some parts of these passages seem to refer primarily to the people of Israel, others to the Messiah yet in Israel’s future.
This fact emphasizes the close identification of the Messiah Yeshua with the Jewish people, as pointed out. . .(Matthew) 2: 15 Note.
Isaiah 42: 1-4 CJB: “Here is my servant, whom I support, my chosen one, in whom I take pleasure. I have put my Spirit on him; he will bring justice to
the Goyim. 2
He will not cry or shout; no one will hear his voice in the streets. 3
He will not snap off a broken reed or snuff out a smoldering wick. He will bring
forth justice according to truth; 4
he will not weaken or be crushed until he has established justice on the earth, and the coastlands wait for his Torah.”
We are called to be Christ-like, to first examine ourselves (1Cor 11: 31) and “Be Holy, for I Am Holy” (1Peter 1: 16). Jesus Messiah is New Covenant, by His Flesh
and Blood, True Food and True Drink of John 6; Bread of Heaven.
The slave of Exodus 21 above says “I love my Master. . .so I don’t want to go free.” Don’t miss the next part in verse 6: “then his Master is to bring him before
God….”. The Son Who sits at Right Hand of Father pleading on our behalf (Rom 8: 34) brings us before Father. Then at the doorpost, the slave’s ear is pierced
with an awl. This is the same as Covenant because it is sealed by blood and “the man will be his slave FOR LIFE.”
- Life and Death: God told Abram to prepare the sacrifices, split, on the left and on the right. And The Lord, the smoking fire pot, Refiner’s Fire, passed between.
And God made Covenant with Abram at Genesis 15. Jesus Who is Refiner’s Fire, His Flesh, True Food on one side, His Blood, True Drink on the other, passes
between the sacrifices, RESTORING COVENANT with us. We examine ourselves, repenting, asking forgiveness, eating His Flesh and drinking His Blood, ‘as often
as’ we sin.
- Life and Death: God required unblemished lamb or kid blood on the Israelites’ doorposts so the Death Angel would Pass-over, and the firstborn spared.
- Life and Death: The Son of God came in the flesh. Father required His one and only Son to put His Life in the hands of a mere man, John the Baptist, and be
immersed in the baptism, symbolizing Death. For Life is in the Blood.
- Life and Death: Jesus only did what Father told Him to do, and only said what Father told Him to say. Jesus was first and foremost ‘humble of heart’. As The
Son, He had a healthy fear of Father, and always obeyed, becoming a curse for us; obedience, even unto death. That is His calling of us to be like Him: humble
fear obey, above all else. Servants first, we are to be ‘dead to sin, but alive in Him.’
- Life and Death: Jesus, knowing His betrayer, gets up after the supper at John 13, and removes his outer garment (takes the position of a slave) and washes the
disciples’ feet, even his betrayer’s. He washed our feet too. Then he commanded “. . .you also should wash each other’s feet.”
- Life and Death: the Greek word ‘cross’ is but a translation of ‘the execution stake’. The horizontal crossbar is like Death. The vertical is like Resurrection. This
bloody stake is our doorpost to Eternal Life. The Son, beaten and scourged beyond recognition, the Scapegoat for mankind’s sin was nailed to that doorpost.
For He, the True One Who has the key of David is the Open Door that cannot be shut and the Shut Door that cannot be opened.

- Life and Death: Jesus stands ‘at the door knocking’ at Rev 3: 20. What door? The door of our hearts! Apply Passover Lamb’s Blood to the doorposts of your
heart; He is calling your name. Are you listening? Open the door of you heart and fall at His Feet!
- Life and Death: Messiah, Faithful and True at Rev 19 is riding a white horse, eyes like a fiery flame, wearing many royal crowns, a sharp sword coming out of his
mouth, and He is wearing a robe soaked (or dipped) in Blood. He, the greatest Servant of all, defeated Satan at the execution stake. He Who IS Victory,
identified as King of kings and Lord of lords, slaughters the vast horde and takes the beast and false prophet captive, throwing them alive into the lake of fire.
- Life and Death: It is the Slaughtered Lamb of Rev 5 we serve. The 24 elders fell down and worshipped Him, casting their crowns before the throne. We are to
give it all up even our crowns, as we come to our prayer closets, worshipping by bowing, kneeling, prostrating. This Slaughtered Lamb is the same One Who
interceded for us at Gethsemane and sweat like drops of blood fell to the ground.
- Life and Death: Yeshua Messiah, our Example, bearing our sin, became THE Bond Servant. He laid His Life down, no one took it from Him, He IS the Offer-er.
He offered His Body, not just His Ear, but His Body to be pierced as prophesied in Psalm 22:16 and Isaiah 53. Our Bond Servant is Sacrificial Lamb; how willing we
should be to offer ourselves to Him for His Glory: Bond Servant Brides!
There is so much more! Servant, are you now bonded? Have you come to Messiah Who looked down from the execution stake saying, “Father, forgive them
(that’s you and me) for they know not what they do.” Have you leaned against the execution stake, offering your ear to Master saying, “I love you Lord, I give
you myself, my life, now pierce my ear to the stake, the doorpost.” Jesus says, “I Who Am Mercy and Grace became a Ransom for you. You are engraved on My
nail-scarred Hands of Isaiah 49: 16. Now bear your execution stake. Come, follow Me, for My yoke is easy, My burden light. It was ultimately for Joy I went to
the execution stake for you as at Hebrews 12: 2. For Father anointed Me with the oil of Joy as at Hebrew 1: 8-9.“
Yes, be the Bond Servant, knowing you are sealed by Messiah’s Blood, but forever will allow The Master to pierce you ear to the execution stake. When he says,
“Whom should I send? Who will go for us?”; do as Isaiah at Chapter 6, saying, “I’m here, send me!” Go and serve in whatever capacity He shows.
The Blessings of Numbers 6: 24-26 and Ephesians 3: 14-21 be upon you.
