WHAT IS TRACKSTAR?
Trackstar is a sports show totally focused on publicizing local sports especially in the
schools around the country. The TrackStar program, will be televised through the
digital television channel, Tumpaani TV, which aims at promoting healthy living
among Ghanaians. As such, the TrackStar program will not only be a source of
entertainment for the young people in Ghana, but it also aims to inspire many to
participate in sports as a way of keeping fit.

Our vision is to promote a culture of sports locally
through good quality publicity on various platforms
such as television and the internet.

4. THE PROJECT
Our project is focused on promoting basketball in Ghana. More
specifically, TrackStar aims at publicizing the Tema Basketball
League as a first step to promote Ghanaian basketball. We aim to
televise the league in an attractive way to inspire viewers to cherish
and participate in basketball as they watch young and talented
players like themselves showcase their skill. This pilot project will
provide a workable framework which can be duplicated for other
existing leagues in Ghana such as the Accra Basketball League and
the University and Colleges Basketball Championship (UCBC).

5. THE TEMA BASKETBALL LEAGUE
(TBL)
The Tema Basketball League is an existing local basketball league
that comprises of 11 teams in and around that compete weekly.
This five-a-side basketball league takes place every Sunday evening
at the Community 4 basketball court (also popularly known as the
Chinese court). The teams compete for a number of weeks in order
to qualify for the playoffs, which include a total of 4 teams. The
playoffs are organized in the form of a best-of-three series with the
victorious team emerging as the winner pf the entire league.
The participating teams include: Community 2, Nungua Coldstore,
Tema Heat, Community 4, Francophone Stars, Tema Newtown
Flashlights, Teshie Vikings, Teshie Rangers, Ashaiman Lions, A.K Rifles
and Tema Rockets.

TARGET
AUDIENCE
Core Audience:
Ghanaian youth (typically students from the Senior High
Level to people within five to ten years of graduating from
the University).

CURRENT STATUS OF THE TBL
The league is currently running but gathers very little publicity
through its Facebook and Youtube pages.
Some main challenges the league faces are lack of good quality
cameras and videographers, poor profiling of players, and poorly
regulated maintenance of the basketball court.
