2. Personal Statement A generalization of my personal goal for my life is to make the world a better place. There are many different methods I use to try and accomplish this goal. One method is recycling. My family has one bin for garbage that is rarely full and five bins for recycling that are almost always filled to the top. If I go out and find recycling I take it home if there is not a recycling bin to throw the material in at my current location. I have been involved with the recycling program since I was in elementary school and my interest has increased since. Another method I use to help the world become a better place is by purchasing as many eco-friendly materials as possible instead of non-biodegradable materials. By purchasing organic foods and materials it increases the revenue for the businesses providing the products which in turn help eliminate the use of harmful chemicals to the environment. I also support my local Farmer's Market which provides my community with fresh, organic foods and products. Another method I use to help make the world a better place is by playing music. I enjoy many different types of music and I think music is a great way to bring people together. I can play the trumpet, electric guitar, piano, and some percussion instruments. I think music is therapeutic to both the listener and the musician. It is also an important gateway to inspiring and motivating audiences to opening their minds to new ideas. Music is also a beneficial mental exercise and takes much patience and skill to master. Music brings information to the masses and is helpful to find one's identity. With my degree in Psychology of Substance Abuse I plan to help those who are at their weakest moment become rehabilitated. Many of us have weak moments and need someone to help us realize our strengths and become independent and thriving individuals. I feel that I have an ability to present an individual with the truth, which can sometimes be an unfortunate truth, and help them to discover their true strengths. I feel that this can help make the world a better place because there are so many negative events that happen in our lives which can hinder our success at life. I think that if we have the chance to climb above our problems and our negativity we can be successful at anything we put our minds to. The more people who are confident means the more success we have in our society. Some individuals don't feel that those who abuse substances stand a chance for success in our society and I feel that everyone has something positive to contribute and everyone can be rehabilitated. I believe everyone should be treated equally no matter race, sex, religion, or economic status. I have interacted with many unique individuals from many different social statuses and I feel that all of us combined makes for a very exciting and productive society. Overall, my mission to make the world a better place takes one small step at a time. Doing small courtesies for strangers and loved ones alike make me feel like I've accomplished something important. By holding doors open for strangers, smiling at those who I don't know, and taking time out of my schedule to help someone allows me to see that the world really is a wonderful place. I don't feel that many individuals realize how good it feels to give rather than receive. I feel that by my participating in the small courtesies I provide for others it can reflect onto another individual and may perhaps spread the pleasure of helping each other. I believe that by doing simple things like recycling, purchasing organic foods, playing music, and providing an inspirational service to those in need can bring out the good in others.

4. Reflection I feel that my personal experience at Argosy University has been an interesting one. I began after completing my associates degree in behavioral science at Ancilla College and half way through my time at Argosy University I unexpectedly became pregnant. The Argosy Online Program has taught me how to better manage my time in the most efficient manner between being a mother and a student. I have learned how to research subjects and find reliable sources as well as reference those sources. I feel that I have offered critical thoughts to many different issues concerning psychology and I feel that I offer a different perspective to the field. One may think that online classes should be easier than going to a physical class, but instead it is not. The students have to read the lectures instead of listening to lectures as well as all the reading assignments. It is more time consuming than one may think, however it has helped me learn in a more effective manner. I feel I learn better when I teach myself and am guided by a professor. I feel that being a student at Argosy University has helped shape my learning skills and I feel that I can find any information on any subject. I plan on using the information that I have learned through this program in my future career as a substance abuse counselor.

7. My Future in Learning I envision my future as a learner as being very fruitful. I am a mother and I have a very adventurous daughter. I am also interested in many subjects so I read and research for my own personal reasons. My husband also has an interest in learning new things so I feel that learning is going to be a family project throughout our lives. I don’t plan on furthering my degree for quite a while, if at all, as I want to have time to be a good mom.
