Gas
—mixtures for welding shielding
applications—are available in sizes
from 20 cubic feet to over 300 cubic
feet. Low-pressure cylinders are
available for propane, propylene
and other fuel gases. Laboratory
specialty gases are available in
high- or low-pressure, depending
upon the gas.
Liquid cylinders/dewars
If you use large numbers of cylinders,
you may consider liquid cylinders as
a more efficient supply mode. These
vacuum-jacketed containers hold
liquefied gases and are designed for
reliable, economical transportation.
Liquid cylinder capacity is measured
in liters. The most common delivery
sizes are 160, 180, and 230 liters.
Delivery pressures range from
22 PSIG up to 320 PSIG.
Bulk and MicroBulk
For the highest-volume gas users,
bulk deliveries provide the most
cost-effective solution. Airgas bulk
tanks are installed at the customer’s
site and regular bulk-truck deliveries
are scheduled. Typical bulk and micro-
bulk gases include Nitrogen, Oxygen,

Total Integration Approach
Long-term, secure storage of
biological materials is a critical
challenge faced by institutions in the
life science and healthcare industries.
All too often, storage requirements
outgrow the capacity of the facility.
Systems become a mixture of
components that are difficult to
maintain and validate. Building a
new system demands large capital
outlay and requires valuable personnel
time to commission, operate and
monitor the equipment.
Airgas offers a proven and cost-
effective solution: Total System
Integration. From engineering and
design through installation, main-
tenance, monitoring and validation,
Airgas provides customers with
technologically advanced on-site
or off-site cryorepository facilities
specifically tailored to both current
and future storage requirements.
You are assured of having a
fully validated, state-of-the-art
facility that has the potential
to grow with your storage
needs. Best of all, the facility
is monitored on a 24/7 basis
and all critical data, including
storage temperature and liquid
nitrogen levels, are logged.
In the event of a failure, long
duration hold times and
redundant backup systems are
designed into the facility. The

About CO2 and Dry Ice
CO2 gas is inert, colorless, odorless
and tasteless and it is a part of the
earth’s natural atmospheric make-
up. Airgas does not originate CO2;
instead Airgas recycles CO2 that
comes from the earth, refineries
or exhaust streams by cleaning
the gas and making it into a safe
quality product for medical, food
and beverage use. Cleaning CO2 is
good for the environment and Airgas
provides safe products both in a
liquefied and solid form.
Dry ice is created by compressing
liquid CO2 under extreme pressure
forming a solid shape which can be
made in many sizes by extruding
or cutting. Dry ice has a cooling
property of approximately 245 BTU’s
per lb. or -109°F. The properties of
dry ice make it 1.5 times denser than
air, cools at five times the rate wet ice
and used in applications where super
cooling is required. Because dry ice
is compressed gas, a natural process
called sublimation occurs during
the refrigeration process converting
the solid form back into a gas. This
clean coolant process is effective
and eliminates most of the
disadvantages associated with
alternative solutions.
If you’re looking for dry ice, you’ll find it with Airgas. As the largest supplier of dry ice, Airgas has established a
series of production plants across the nation to develop a secure supply source. Distribution Branches are located in
strategic locations throughout the country to provide service to key industries including universities and labs.
Quality, reliability and service are the key drivers that enable Airgas to grow with organizations who depend on dry
ice and cold shipping supplies.
Dry ice is used in many areas: shipping, experiments, preservation, specimens, shrinking, cleaning and freezing.
Airgas offers other products like gel packs and cold shipping containers that are used in conjunction with dry ice to
maintain temperature integrity. Call Airgas today at 1-877-ICE-NOW1 or visit our website at www.airgasdryice.com.

About Cold Shipping Containers and Gel Packs
Dry ice used in conjunction with special cold shipping
boxes and gel packs extend the shipping time for special
needs. Cold shipping products come in a variety of
different sizes for all types of applications. Each cold
shipping container is sized with the correct wall
thickness and special tolerances for lids to extend the
coolant time. Custom cardboard boxes are designed
to provide an extra layer of protection and cooling
factor for the cold shipping boxes.
Airgas gel packs are non-toxic and come in different
sizes depending on each application. Purchasing cold
shipping products through Airgas reduces the minimum
order requirements, reduces damages, cuts down on
losses and reduces shipping costs.

In addition to Airgas’ complete line
of industrial and medical gases,
Airgas is the leading supplier of
refrigerant gases in the U.S. From
a nationwide network of stocking
points, Airgas maintains the widest
selection of refrigerants, used for
air conditioning and refrigeration
applications, including automotive
air conditioning. Our supply
includes all refrigerants types, such
as R-22, R-410A, R-134a and much
more. As a major customer of the
four major refrigerant chemical
manufacturers, Airgas also
carries all the newly developed,
next-generation refrigerant
alternatives commercially available
today. These include R407A and
R-438A. All are available in
standard industry cylinder sizes for
next-day delivery.
When you think refrigerants, think Airgas
Airgas.....
KEEPING HIGHER
LEARNINGCOOL
Under the guidelines of the Clean
Air Act, today the air conditioning
and refrigerated industries are
facing the challenges of a world-
wide phase-out of the production
of HCFC refrigerants. This includes
R-22, the most widely used
refrigerant worldwide.
Airgas is committed to the refrigerant
industry and has developed the
most comprehensive refrigerant
recycling and reclamation programs
available, which support the effects
of this unprecedented production
phase-out. To further support our
commitment, Airgas currently owns
and operates two state-of-the art
reclamation facilities for the recycling
of refrigerant gases to restore them
to industry standard specification
AHRI-700. Additionally, Airgas
has invested in the development
of reclamation equipment using
the most advanced technologies,
providing the capacity to recycle
several millions pounds of used
refrigerants per year.
Airgas is dedicated to preserving
the future supply of R-22 as well
as other refrigerants already
phased-out by EPA regulations.
These include such refrigerants as
CFC’s R-11, R-113, R-114, R-500 and
R-12, all currently available from
Airgas. Today Airgas buys all used
refrigerants from the industry for
reclamation and our programs and
offers for buy-back, banking, process
and exchange are second to none.
Refrigerant supply and reclamation
are not all Airgas provides the
HVACR industry. Our patented
RPS equipment is a high-speed,
transportable reclamation unit
which can reclaim refrigerants
on-site at speeds of 2,700 pounds
per hour, returning refrigerants
that meet or exceed the AHRI-700
standard. Certified Airgas field
technicians also provide
dehydration and flushing services
designed to remove moisture from
any refrigerant system regardless
of size or capacity.
Airgas is a full-service refrigerant
supplier, providing refrigerant gases
and refrigerant service solutions to
our customers coast to coast.
Think Airgas for
refrigerants.

  • 7. Flexible hoses, fittings, chromatographically cleaned tubing Airgas carries a complete line of flexible hoses and fittings for your gas delivery systems. We offer CGA (Compressed Gas Association) fittings in all types of materials with a check valve incorporated into the nose. This prevents large amounts of air from entering your system when changing cylinders and is a critical component to assuring consistent results from your gas chromatograph. Airgas also has chromatographically cleaned tubing in coils and sticks, in both copper and stainless steel. This is the correct type of tubing you need to build any system for gas chromatography or other analytical applications. Changeover Manifolds Airgas offers a wide range of changeover manifolds for all analytical, life science, LCMS, ICP, and other high- purity applications, as well as for CO2 lasers. We’ll help you select the right manifold for your application and budget. Airgas manifolds have many different features that differentiate one series from another. • 18. 18 About CO2 and Dry Ice CO2 gas is inert, colorless, odorless and tasteless and it is a part of the earth’s natural atmospheric make- up. Airgas does not originate CO2; instead Airgas recycles CO2 that comes from the earth, refineries or exhaust streams by cleaning the gas and making it into a safe quality product for medical, food and beverage use. Cleaning CO2 is good for the environment and Airgas provides safe products both in a liquefied and solid form. Dry ice is created by compressing liquid CO2 under extreme pressure forming a solid shape which can be made in many sizes by extruding or cutting. Dry ice has a cooling property of approximately 245 BTU’s per lb. or -109°F. The properties of dry ice make it 1.5 times denser than air, cools at five times the rate wet ice and used in applications where super cooling is required. Because dry ice is compressed gas, a natural process called sublimation occurs during the refrigeration process converting the solid form back into a gas. This clean coolant process is effective and eliminates most of the disadvantages associated with alternative solutions. If you’re looking for dry ice, you’ll find it with Airgas. As the largest supplier of dry ice, Airgas has established a series of production plants across the nation to develop a secure supply source. Distribution Branches are located in strategic locations throughout the country to provide service to key industries including universities and labs. Quality, reliability and service are the key drivers that enable Airgas to grow with organizations who depend on dry ice and cold shipping supplies. Dry ice is used in many areas: shipping, experiments, preservation, specimens, shrinking, cleaning and freezing. Airgas offers other products like gel packs and cold shipping containers that are used in conjunction with dry ice to maintain temperature integrity. From cryogenic storage vessels and freezers to vacuum-insulated piping for liquid nitrogen and redundant monitoring and alarm systems, Airgas is the one source more university, medical and biopharmaceutical laboratories turn to for expert advice and support. Central gas supply For greater safety, convenience and efficiency, more and more laboratories are specifying a central gas supply. The Airgas Central Gas Supply system allows you to control the gas supply while maintaining the high quality and purity of gas from the source to the point of use. It reduces the number of gas cylinders needed, removes them from the laboratory workplace and relocates them to a centralized controlled area where gas can be piped to multiple points of use. 31
