About CO2 and Dry Ice
CO2 gas is inert, colorless, odorless
and tasteless and it is a part of the
earth’s natural atmospheric make-
up. Airgas does not originate CO2;
instead Airgas recycles CO2 that
comes from the earth, refineries
or exhaust streams by cleaning
the gas and making it into a safe
quality product for medical, food
and beverage use. Cleaning CO2 is
good for the environment and Airgas
provides safe products both in a
liquefied and solid form.
Dry ice is created by compressing
liquid CO2 under extreme pressure
forming a solid shape which can be
made in many sizes by extruding
or cutting. Dry ice has a cooling
property of approximately 245 BTU’s
per lb. or -109°F. The properties of
dry ice make it 1.5 times denser than
air, cools at five times the rate wet ice
and used in applications where super
cooling is required. Because dry ice
is compressed gas, a natural process
called sublimation occurs during
the refrigeration process converting
the solid form back into a gas. This
clean coolant process is effective
and eliminates most of the
disadvantages associated with
alternative solutions.
If you’re looking for dry ice, you’ll find it with Airgas. As the largest supplier of dry ice, Airgas has established a
series of production plants across the nation to develop a secure supply source. Distribution Branches are located in
strategic locations throughout the country to provide service to key industries including universities and labs.
Quality, reliability and service are the key drivers that enable Airgas to grow with organizations who depend on dry
ice and cold shipping supplies.
Dry ice is used in many areas: shipping, experiments, preservation, specimens, shrinking, cleaning and freezing.
Airgas offers other products like gel packs and cold shipping containers that are used in conjunction with dry ice to
maintain temperature integrity. Call Airgas today at 1-877-ICE-NOW1 or visit our website at www.airgasdryice.com.

About Cold Shipping Containers and Gel Packs
Dry ice used in conjunction with special cold shipping
boxes and gel packs extend the shipping time for special
needs. Cold shipping products come in a variety of
different sizes for all types of applications. Each cold
shipping container is sized with the correct wall
thickness and special tolerances for lids to extend the
coolant time. Custom cardboard boxes are designed
to provide an extra layer of protection and cooling
factor for the cold shipping boxes.
Airgas gel packs are non-toxic and come in different
sizes depending on each application. Purchasing cold
shipping products through Airgas reduces the minimum
order requirements, reduces damages, cuts down on
losses and reduces shipping costs.

21. Under the guidelines of the Clean
Air Act, today the air conditioning
and refrigerated industries are
facing the challenges of a world-
wide phase-out of the production
of HCFC refrigerants. This includes
R-22, the most widely used
refrigerant worldwide.
Airgas is committed to the refrigerant
industry and has developed the
most comprehensive refrigerant
recycling and reclamation programs
available, which support the effects
of this unprecedented production
phase-out. To further support our
commitment, Airgas currently owns
and operates two state-of-the art
reclamation facilities for the recycling
of refrigerant gases to restore them
to industry standard specification
AHRI-700. Additionally, Airgas
has invested in the development
of reclamation equipment using
the most advanced technologies,
providing the capacity to recycle
several millions pounds of used
refrigerants per year.
Airgas is dedicated to preserving
the future supply of R-22 as well
as other refrigerants already
phased-out by EPA regulations.
These include such refrigerants as
CFC’s R-11, R-113, R-114, R-500 and
R-12, all currently available from
Airgas. Today Airgas buys all used
refrigerants from the industry for
reclamation and our programs and
offers for buy-back, banking, process
and exchange are second to none.
Refrigerant supply and reclamation
are not all Airgas provides the
HVACR industry. Our patented
RPS equipment is a high-speed,
transportable reclamation unit
which can reclaim refrigerants
on-site at speeds of 2,700 pounds
per hour, returning refrigerants
that meet or exceed the AHRI-700
standard. Certified Airgas field
technicians also provide
dehydration and flushing services
designed to remove moisture from
any refrigerant system regardless
of size or capacity.
Airgas is a full-service refrigerant
supplier, providing refrigerant gases
and refrigerant service solutions to
our customers coast to coast.

It’s about safety
Traditional lecture bottles present a
potential hazard if the valve is
damaged. The unique Safe-T-Cyl™
valve shroud does double duty:
it effectively prevents the cylinder
from rolling, thereby protecting the
valve from damage due to falls or
impact, and the handle allows you
to carry the lecture bottle safely
wherever it’s needed.
It’s about cost savings
Lecture bottle disposal costs range
from expensive for inert gases to
unaffordable for unusual or highly
toxic gases. Because Safe-T-Cyl™
is
returnable and refillable, there are
no disposal costs. Period.
It’s about quality
Safe-T-Cyl™
has built-in flow
control thanks to a specially
designed valve that provides
precise, consistent gas flow.
Safe-T-Cyl™
is available with these
top-quality gases from Airgas:
• Sulfur Dioxide (SO2 )
• Hydrogen Chloride (HCl)
• Ammonia (NH3)

Gold Gas®
Premium Shielding Gases
It’s the smallest cost in your
welding applications. Yet the right
shielding gas can have the greatest
impact on your total cost. At Airgas,
we understand how shielding gases
influence the quality of your weld,
the productivity of your labor and
the profitability of your business.
Our welding process specialists,
including certified welding inspectors,
will help you determine which
of our seven Airgas Gold Gas®
mixes best fits your needs. And
with nearly 800 Airgas locations
nationwide, we can produce and
distribute your Gold Gas, whether
you have one facility across the
street or many facilities across the
nation. It’s a unique combination
of the right product and the right
expertise—right where you need it.
Precise-Mixture Gas Blenders
In today’s metal fabrication environ-
ment, improving productivity and
quality are the keys to survival and
success. That’s why more and more
applications requiring high volumes
of pre-mixed gases are supplied
with gas blended on site. Airgas
MicroBulk or bulk deliveries are
more cost effective than
high-pressure or liquid cylinders.
And when you use an Airgas
blender, mixes are more precise
and consistent across a wide range
of flow rates.

Would You Know What to Do If …
• gas purity is compromised or incorrectly used?
• gas supply is lost or pressure varies?
• you experience a gas leak?
• a cylinder is mishandled or cannot be delivered easily to the use point?
• gas supply modes affect the aesthetics of the facility?
• a centrally located gas supply is not used?
Cryogenic gas management systems
Airgas offers design and installation
services for both onsite and offsite
cryorepositories. From cryogenic
storage vessels and freezers to
vacuum-insulated piping for liquid
nitrogen and redundant monitoring
and alarm systems, Airgas is the one
source more university, medical and
biopharmaceutical laboratories turn
to for expert advice and support.
Central gas supply
For greater safety, convenience
and efficiency, more and more
laboratories are specifying a central
gas supply. The Airgas Central Gas
Supply system allows you to control
the gas supply while maintaining
the high quality and purity of gas
from the source to the point of use.
It reduces the number of
gas cylinders needed,
removes them from
the laboratory
workplace and
relocates them
to a centralized
controlled area
where gas can be piped
to multiple points of use.

inventory expense, logistical labor
and product selection are not
addressed. You know your direct
costs, but how do the indirect and
hidden costs associated with the
purchase and management of these
products erode your bottom line?

dangerous situation. In disasters
like these, customers can turn to
Airgas for immediate help with
damaged or dangerous compressed

gas emergency our customers face.
Every Hazmat Technician within
the Airgas Emergency Response
Organization is trained well beyond
OSHA requirements. Airgas
technicians are required to take
an initial 40 hours of emergency
response training, focused
exclusively on compressed gases.
This level of training means that
our technicians on the scene meet
the same qualification standard set
for Incident Commanders, who
manage entire response teams.

in the organization are volunteers
from various disciplines and levels
throughout the company.
Does your current supplier have

an emergency, now is the time to
find out.
Emergency response is a part of
our total commitment to Airgas
