A heterogeneous reaction is a chemical reaction where the reactants are in different phases from each other. The reaction of metals with acids, the electrochemical changes that occur in batteries and electrolytic cells, and the phenomena of corrosion are part of the subject of heterogeneous reactions. A heterogeneous catalytic reaction occur at -or- very near the “fluid-solid interface.”
