4. Crowds
Interpreting the crowd near the
Brooklyn Bridge through a poem by
Edwin Brock.
Loss of individuality in the 20th
century.

6. Messages on the Street
When I was wandering in the street, I found lots of
stickers and graffiti on the street(mainly on light
poles).
Someone left messages on different places, and
these places use those visual signs to communicate
with pedestrians.
Messages on the street like whispers. They are
obviously there. And they are easy to be ignored.
8. Lost Things
Look carefully. Watch out.
Many things are left on the street everyday. They
lying on the roads silently.
They are not trash. They are waiting.
Each lost thing has a background story about why
and how it is here.
10. Theme #1
Sound
Exploring the natural sounds in the
area and contrasting them with the
city noise outside the area.
11. Theme #2
Abolitionism
Brooklyn Heights has a historic
significance in the abolition of
slavery in America. Plymouth Church
was connected by underground
tunnels which acted as routes to free
the slaves brought in from the south
to the piers near the waterfront.
12. Theme #3
Natural Vanity
Nowhere else in the city can one find
such well tended floral facades. The
privilege of the place allows for
streets lined with myriad bouquets
and scenes out of secretive gardens.
Even in the midst of frigid winter, this
plant life acts as a signifier of the
wealth and influence of the
neighborhood.
Nature has become a privilege.

16. Theme #4
Crime in Brooklyn Heights
Brooklyn Heights is one of the most
expensive parts of the city. So does
the land price has something to do
with safety? The answer is yes.
According to the NYC crime map for
the last year, many crimes happened
in this area. But compare with other
neighborhoods, Brooklyn Heights is
indeed a safe neighborhood.
Let’s identify where are the
dangerous zones in a relatively safe
place.

Brooklyn Heights - Utopian
Unreality of the Suburb,
Stories & Mythology
Charting a made up history for the “Oldest Suburb in America.”
Legends and fantastical tales imposed upon an area that by nature
lacks a compelling history and culture of its own.
Welcome to Brooklyn Heights.
