Winston-Salem Symphony
Meet the Maestro
Policies and Procedures
About the Program:
When they’re not on the podium, Maestro Robert Moody and Assistant Conductor Stephen Mulligan can be found visiting
students and adults of all ages at schools, libraries, and community centers throughout the Triad to discuss music and assist
with rehearsals. To arrange a visit for your school or organization, contact Jessica Munch-Dittmar, Education and Community
Engagement Director, at jmunch-dittmar@wssymphony.org or at 336-725-1035 ex. 221.
Classroom and Behavioral Management Expectations:
Please speak to your class about what it means to be a good listener and audience member prior to the arrival of any Winston-
Salem Symphony visitor. Please set the example for your students and manage behavioral problems throughout the
performance or presentation. Your help in this area is greatly appreciated.
Preparation Expectations:
When booking a Meet the Maestro visit at your school or organization please express your particular vision for the visit in terms
of what you would like for them to present, rehearse or accomplish. If additional materials, such as conductor’s scores, are
necessary, please prepare and send those items to the Education and Community Engagement Director so that we may
appropriately prepare for our visit. You will also be asked to provide details regarding the time and location of the visit.
Booking the Maestro:
All Maestro visits should be booked through the Winston-Salem Symphony Education and Community Engagement Director,
Jessica Munch-Dittmar. Visits should not be booked through any other staff person.
Payment:
All Meet the Maestro visits are complimentary but of course we’d gladly accept a donation.
Assist with Our Funding Efforts:
You can help us with grant writing by sending us your completed survey forms, a copy of your school newsletter that mentions
the WSS, student “thank you” notes, or a few great examples of your students work surrounding our visit. Your assistance in
this area is fundamental to our continued efforts to provide affordable education opportunities to the community.
Cancellation:
Because each Meet the Maestro visit requires a great deal of administrative effort and coordination, any cancellation on the
part of the school/organization will result in the school/organization being billed for a $50.00 cancellation fee. The only
exceptions to this policy are:
1. An “Act of God” prevents the intended visit from taking place, i.e. snow, other severe weather, etc.
2. A rescheduled date is identified that is agreeable both with the school and the visiting Maestro.
By signing this agreement, you are confirming that you understand, will adhere to and agree with the policies and procedures
listed above. The person signing this agreement on behalf of the school/organization further acknowledges that they are
authorized to commit to its terms and conditions.
