1. How to make a Terracotta warrior for your tomb! ~from the Hahn dynasty Jessica Bragdon Period 5 How to Guide on the Hahn Dynasty
2. Introduction Today, we will be learning how to make a Terracotta Warrior from the Hahn Dynasty to put into your tomb. Terracotta Warriors, sculptures, animals, ect. Were a shared art between the Qin and Hahn Dynasty. There were normally put in tombs, depending what it was, and also used for decorating. So, follow these step that I am about to tell you, and you will have your very own Terracotta Warrior! :D
3. What You Will Need!! Yellow Earth Your hands Scrapers, knifes, and clay penciles. Mud Body Molds Sack Cloths Clay Glue
4. Instructions Step 1:First, make a hollow head shaped out of the Yellow Earth. Step 2: Use mud to apply different facial shapes. Step 3: Use the clay pencil and draw the eyes, eyebrows, nose, mouth, hair, hat or bun, and the ears. Step 4: Use one of the body molds for the foot plate, which should come out as a square-ish shape… If it’s anything else…you might wanna fix it…>.>
5. Instructions 2 5. Then, shape the Yellow Earth into feet, short pants and legs. You might want to use a little extra to add more life-like detail to your warrior. 6. Next is the Torso. Use long wide strips of the Yellow Earth. In order to keep it strong and tight, use the sack cloth underneath and pound it in until it is in the right shape and size. 7. Dry the parts into the sun :P
6. Instructions 3 :P 8. Make the arm, but there are different steps depending on weather you want it bent or straight. (Straight) Use the same method you used to make the torso, use strips and the sackcloth and pound until it looks like a real arm. Let it dry out in the sun. (Bent) Make the arm into separate pieces, then glue them together, preferably with a very long lasting, strong glue. The hand will be made, inserted, and then pasted inside. Don’t forget to put the Head on… XD
7. Almost Done…. 10. Now it’s time to Lit them on fire! >:D Okay, not that I want to burn them or anything, but, we need to put them in there so they dry and stay together. Poke holes into his feet to let the hot air out so your warrior doesn’t blow up. Put it in the kindle, upside down! ( This was used by the Hahn’s many years ago because of gravity. The head weighs a lot more than the feet, and is put upside down to keep it stable.)
8. Almost….There….. 11. Keep it at 1000 C. Wait for a little while and keep and eye on it. Once it becomes hard and a tann-ish color, turn off the Kindle and take your warrior out. He is now done!!!! Finally!!!! >:D
9. Conclusion :’( It is now your choice if you want to paint him, but if you do, don’t forget to put on two layers of raw lacquer like the Hahn’s did! And there, after you painted him, you have a warrior that you can decorate your tomb with and have always with you to protect you. :D
