3. What is Brake Fluid?
PEG Products +
• Laxatives
The Base of brake fluid is made up of polyethylene • Eye Drops
Glycol or PEG for short, Which is also known as • Skin Creams
Anti-Freeze. (Not Oil Based) PEG is used to make • Tooth Paste
products like eye drops and spandex. • Printer Ink Solvent
• Spandex
• Foam Cushions
• Paintball Fill

4. Who is MAP?
Motorist Assurance Program (MAP)
was created to
protect the interest of:
• Auto Repair Industry
• Vehicle Owners
MAP Missions
MAP’s mission is to insure consistency in inspections of
vehicles and communication of that inspection to the customer.

Uniform Inspection and
Communication Standards
Shops needed uniformity in repair
recommendations
Customers needed more information
to make an educated decision
(Company) has printed hand out that say manufacturers recommend replacing brake
fluid once a year or each 12,000 miles. I've researched for hours on the net and
calling all kinds on dealer service departments, I haven't found any recommends for
brake fluid replacement under 50,000 mile unless the fluid becomes contaminated.
BS statements to make more profit. From what I've witnessed most of the techs
don't even do a proper bleed and flush. Some agency should conduct and
investigation and interview current and past employee's. (Company) would be
in poor shape if they were checked out by the attorney general and or TV-radio
stations. (www.pissedconsumer.com)

EPDM Inner Lining
• Very rare today
• OE Fluids have higher boiling points
• System design changes
• Studies by Ford showed less than 6% of
cars tested failed a moisture test.

Hoses with rubber inner layers did not resist
moisture as well as today’s hoses with EPDM

MAP moisture guidelines as of 11/01/2003
• While moisture is an issue with brake fluids
The measurement of moisture that is detrimental to brake fluid
performance has not been found.
• In addition
No specification exists for an in-use brake fluid boiling point.
Therefore no recommendation for replacement based
on moisture content can be made with confidence.

Here is a chart that shows a relationship to copper versus iron. On the left-hand side here, you can see we have parts per million and
across the bottom are months. You can see the pink is the iron which goes up the scale in relationship to the copper. As the copper
increases so does the iron.

Brake Fluid Flushing
PRESSURE IS THE BEST METHOD
1. Apply brakes a few times to suspend contaminants in brake fluid.
2. Remove old brake fluid and contaminants from reservoir.
3. Add new brake fluid to reservoir.
4. Hold down brake pedal 1 inch to allow fluid to escape from master
cylinder chamber.
5. Perform OE bleeding instruction including correct sequence.
6. Use at least 1 quart to ½ gallon of new brake fluid to pass through
system. (1 minute flow at each bleeder).
