Question 7
                                  The Preliminary
After finishing the preliminary which gave our group the chance to get familiar with the
camera work and editing whilst practicing our continuity , I’ve realised a few flaws in the
filming and editing whilst in the process of our development. The use of planning
significantly helped us with the scenes, action, dialog and actor’s (Will and Agata), otherwise
our outcome would have came out worse.

Whilst we did our first practice of filming, we’ve realised a lot more effort and practicing
should have taken place whilst filming and editing which we had to be prepare physically for
the manual labour of using the camera as well as the tripod and mentally for the use of
terminology and final cut pro software and effects.

The First shot begins with a panning
Movement and a wide shot that
                                                    establishes the Location- which harrow
weald college and informs the audience.
The use of diegetic sounds establishes the
environment to be calm and regular with
                                                    just car noises driving by.

The Next scene presents a Long shot of
where the first character will appear and this
will present the type of action, motive and
                                                    environment the character will present
                                                    himself to the audience.

Within the Next shot, one of the main characters
bolts through the corridor running as the camera
slightly pans and follows his movement, this is the
beginning of a continuity shot. Diegetic sounds of
the door opening and the main character stomping
while running alerts the audience there is a sense of
                                                  emergency.
In the shot the main character reaches
the other side of the hallways and the
continuity is at its midpoint this scene as
well as sticking to the 180 degree rule.
However a flaw with the editing is that as
the main character continues to the next
scene while going through the door, the
first scene he pushes the door much
further in where as the next scene he
doesn’t which does create a flaw in the
       continuity editing.

And the same flaw continues in the next scene
as he pushes the door much further in but only
by a little bit. This medium shot as he closes the
door and holds the handle implies to the
audience that he’s recovering and blocking
something that has been chasing him before.

The same shot however he realised there’s a
way to barricade himself in the class and grabs
a chair to secure the door, the character give a
sigh of relief which closes the tension however
this scene should have been a close up on his
     face to show his reaction.

The first dialog begins and the second
main character appears which is a girl
asking question, from a medium shot
presents the girl to be scared and
enclose in a corner which leads to the
idea that their strangers but survivors.
This was a reverse shot to view the reaction of the
main character to see that he was surprised to see
another survivor however we had only recorded
one clip of his reaction and its hadn’t been cut
properly during editing which created a down fall
for this scene. The girl voiceover continues within
  this scene to the next.

the next shot returns back to the girl on the floor
continuing to ask her questions which establishes that
she’s nervous and clueless about this mysterious
student. He rolls up his sleeves and a panning shot
begins as he sits down on the floor across her.

Within this Frame a Over the shoulder shot is
established from the second characters view as
the main character across continues his dialog,
this is the beginning of a shot/reverse shot. The
audience is able to view from her side of the
conversation.

Within the Next shot it becomes a reverse shot to the
other side of the conversation however there is a flaw
in the acting while filming is seen again as the second
character changes her leg composition to suddenly
having her legs cross, we should have filmed her
while her legs began to cross but we didn’t have the
 right clips.

Yet again in the next scene, the
camera return to a original shot in
the conversation from the girls view.
the reverse shot is also a part of the
   180 degree rule.
Again the reverse shot is established to
view the girls reaction. She realises there’s
something wrong with the boy’s leg and
check it out, the audience are informed
that something isn’t right due to the girls
     reaction.

In this scene a close up is presented onto the main
characters leg and the girl character action, this
foreshadows that the main character has been infected
by the bite mark which implies a sense of uneasiness.
However the flaws in this show was that the image
wasn’t clear enough to view the bite mark and that in
this shot we had broken the 180 degree shot as the bite
mark was on the other side of the leg while watching
the clips but in editing we had flipped the clip to make it
more subtle.

In The Last shot which goes back to the over the
should shot from the girls view, the audience is able
to see the main characters action as he slaps the girls
hand out of the way which emphasis that he’s hiding
his wound and that fact that he’s infected which
creates a dangerous atmosphere. The last flaw is that
we didn’t record a reaction shot of the girl when her
hand was slapped out of the way and the realisation
that he was infected.
