The CDC and ADHD
The CDC is the Center for Disease Control and Prevention was founded in 1946 during the time of
Malaria and they have grown since spreading awareness and prevention ever since so it only makes sense
that they are the ones that relay the important information about ADHD.Theyhave put together a web page
that shows the importance of ADHD. On the web page they make sure to give the facts and appeal to the
emotions of those reading the web page. The audiences they are trying to reach are parents and anyone that
may have ADHD or know someone with it so they can help them understand what it is about. The CDC
tries to relay this important information to those who need it. Ethos, logos, and pathos are present in almost
all written works and are part of a rhetorical situation that is found in this reading. The audience, medium,
and rhetorical triangle is an important part of any written work.
The audience that the CDC is trying to reach is the parents of children with ADHD. As well as
those who know someone with ADHD that they want to help. “Spectator, listeners, and/or readers of a
performance, a speech, a reading, or printed material. Depending on the author’s/writer’s perception, an
audience may be real, invoked or imagined” (2020, Miami University) In this case the audience is realand
directly affected by the topic therefore relaying this information is important that it be factual. ADHD can
be behavior problems, anxiety, and depression all the way to learning disabilities. It is mainly younger
children that are affected by ADHD,but the other part of the audience is adults with these same things and
this information is supposed to give them more information.
2. The delivery method for the information on this web page is known as the medium, it is how they
show this info it can be pictures, or videos, or even graphs. (2020, Miami University) On the web page,
there is a lot of information that is providing in the text as well as pictures and even graphs. This catches
the attention of the reader. Some readers prefer to look at graphs and pictures and video to get their
information. There can also be commercials and radio stations used as the medium for specific information
to be relayed. In some cases, they have even made Youtube videos to relay information to a certain audience
this happens quite often. When we are talking about tough subjects like this, we are wanting to draw you
in and have you focus on the information at hand. In this type of delivery method for the web page we have
displayed pictures to show you that these kids look normal and for certain areas, they look sad to make you
think about the emotional part of the delivery.
On the web page like most works of literature that relay information, the rhetorical triangle is used
as a way of persuading the reader to think like the writer, having them feel the same way emotionally but
by relaying the factsofthe actualissue being talked about. The rhetorical triangle is known asEthos, Logos,
and Pathos. Ethos is represented by showing the credibility and ethics towards to topic. The CDC is very
credible, they have been doing things like web pages full of important information for a very long time.
They make sure they do their researchonthe topic before putting this information out there to others.Pathos
is represented in the essay by appealing to the public about the importance of catching ADHD at a young
age.The importance of who it affectsandhow it canbe treated.Theyshow pictures of children and families.
Authors use pathos to invoke sympathy from an audience; to make the audience feel what the author wants
them to feel. It is similar to ethos, but logos is strictly facts. The web page shows allthe facts. The locations
where they got their information and references used at the bottom of the page. It shows when they got the
information.
The CDC is trying to persuade the reader to understand the information about ADHD. They used
different techniques to pull the reader into the page by using different fonts, pictures, and graphs to grab
their attention. This is part of the rhetorical triangle that we were talking about above. In all written works
3. this is mostly present, and you can see this even in commercials. The CDC made this webpage to share
information about and important topic and to bring you into their thought processof sharing the right details
about this topic. The audience, medium, and rhetorical triangle is an important part of any written work.
