Web-Based Training Acquisition Expands TSC's Knowledge Management
Capabilities and Tools -CourseNet Systems Solution Helps TSC Meet Increasing Need
to Capture and Diseminate Information
Chicago, November 1, 1999 - eBusiness systems integrator Technology Solutions
Company (TSC) (NASDAQ:TSCC) today announced it has acquired CourseNet Systems,
a leader in the delivery of e-learning solutions, for an undisclosed amount. TSC will
integrate CourseNet into the company's Knowledge Management business unit to meet
the growing demand for software and services that help companies manage important
information.
"Knowledge is the key asset of any organization, but most companies don't have the right
process or tools to effectively connect people to people, or people to knowledge assets,"
explains Matt Harbin, senior vice president of TSC. "By integrating the CourseNet e-
learning platform with our own knowledge management tools, we can help companies
develop a comprehensive knowledge management system, often starting with their
training department, where content is usually the most structured."
CourseNet's XML-based software allows users to create and reuse "learning objects,"
which can be integrated into multiple training programs with minimal effort. With this
software, TSC's Knowledge Management offering includes a suite of tools to author,
deliver, and administer online training, allowing companies to identify experts, take
online courses, collaborate in the development of new knowledge, and share knowledge
with the entire organization and even the entire supply chain. TSC itself is using the
solution, and several other companies, including a large Internet infrastructure solutions
provider, are implementing CourseNet programs.
"By managing information as XML objects, our software is leading the push toward
interoperable content on the Web," said Jeff Larsen, CEO and co-founder of CourseNet
Systems. "Our company began operations in 1992, and we've been very successful in
staying at the forefront of learning technologies and standards. We share a common
vision with TSC in combining best of breed e-learning with knowledge management
software and consulting."
2.
"This acquisition follows a successful strategic partnership between CourseNet and
TSC," said Jack Hayden, group president of TSC. "CourseNet is an important part of our
strategy to help our clients meet their eBusiness needs by integrating e-learning and
knowledge management with e-commerce, supply chain and other IT systems."
