• The United Arab Emirates ,
often referred to as the
U.A.E, is a federation of
seven emirates on the
eastern side of the Arabian
peninsula, at the entrance
to the Persian Gulf.
Politics
• The capitol Emirate, Abu
Dhabi, covers about 70% of
the nation's land. Each
Emirate has its own Sheikh.
• The Sheikh of Abu Dhabi is
always elected President
while the king of Dubai is
always elected Prime
Minister.

• The country is
extraordinarily dry, getting
only a few days of rain a
year. The weather from
late October through mid-
March is quite pleasant,
with high temperatures
ranging from around 27 °C

some 20% of the
population of the
Emirates are 'real'

countries.

is most famous for is
shopping. To find real
bargains, visit the outlet
mall/village or wait for the
SALE time.

Respect
• Emiratis are welcoming
people extremely civil and
friendly. The UAE is more
conservative than most
Western societies, though
not as much as some of
its neighbors. Although
women are not legally
required to wear the
hijab, revealing fashions
should be avoided.

• DO ask permission from people before you
take their photographs. Equally avoid sensitive
sites or pictures which include members of the
police or armed force
• DO make sure that you drink plenty of water.
Your body needs more than fruit juices,
carbonated drinks, tea and coffee
• Be aware of the fact that visitors are expected
to conform to the local customs and be
modest in their dress.
• DO be prepared to bargain with shopkeepers –
particularly in souk.
• Visitors should abide with the Islamic laws and
rules.
• Women should be dressed modestly.
• Men should not go out shirtless.
• Possession or consumption of Alcohol &
Narcotics is illegal.
• Public showing of affection is not allowed.

Alcohol
• It is strictly prohibited to possess any type of
alcohol for both female and male as students
are not allowed to have license for it.
Drugs
• Any student found in possession or consuming
or selling drugs will be subject to expelling
from VOHO.
• Some common painkillers are considered
illegal narcotics in the UAE. Don't bring any
with you unless you carry a copy of your
prescription
• As per the Drugs Laws in UAE anyone found
guilty with the possession of drugs will be
jailed for a period of four years and more
before being deported.

What is Ramadan?
• Ramadan is the ninth
month of the Islamic
calendar. It is a time of
fasting for the Muslim
people. Each day during
this month, Muslims all
over the world abstain
from eating, drinking,
smoking, as well as
participating in anything
that is ill-natured or
excessive; from dawn
until the sunset.

Why do Muslims fast during Ramadan?
Fasting is intended to educate the Muslim in
spirituality, humility and patience. It is a time to
cleanse the soul, focus attention on God, and put
into practice selflessness.
Ramadan is a time for Muslims to fast for the sake
of God and to put forward more prayer than is
customary
They start their fast with a special meal called
“Sohour” at sun rise and they break their fast at
sun set with a special meal known as “Iftar” .
Ramadan every year falls in different months as it
is based on the Lunar Calendar.

How to behave in Ramadan?
Do not eat or drink or smoke in public or in the
presence of Muslim classmates during fasting
times.
Ladies are requested to wear modest dressing,
please avoid tight and revealing dresses.
Avoid loud music and other entertainments

apartments.
Avoid strong perfumes and deodorants.
We request all of you to cooperate with your
classmates and make it a memorable occasion
for them.
