2. As of July 2016, White Americans are the racial majority.
African Americans are the largest racial minority. Hispanic and
Latino Americans are the largest ethnic minority
▪ White Americans are less likely to be suspected of crimes while
minorities are constantly profiled.
▪ White American are idolized by the media while minorities are
constantly villainized.
▪ White Americans are given slaps on the wrist by law enforcement
when it comes to sentencing compared to minorities.
As the racial majorityWhite Americans are privileged to a many
benefits in regards to crime and punishment in America
Race: Usually referring to physical, behavioral, cultural attribute (white, black )
Ethnicity: Usually a sub class of a group , recognized by a language or shared culture
(Polish, Haitian, Mexican)

3. According to the 2010 Census Black and
Hispanics make up 36% of the U.S. population

5. Out of the over 2 Million people stopped and
frisked in the last 10 years in NYC about 10%
was white.

6. Even as a victim of a crime minorities are portrayed
as deviant while white criminals often humanized by
the media.
In 2012 a white man responsible for a
horrible mass shooting had
headlines describing him as “nice”
In 2015 news agencies described a 14 yr.
old victim of a crime as “no saint” so
viewers wouldn't see her as an innocent

7. In 2015 one reporter published two
stories about two groups of men —
one black and one white — arrested
for burglary.The white suspects were
pictured in suits and ties, while
photos accompanying the story

9. Just last week there were videos of the NYPD fighting
with a person of color over a dispute about social
distancing laws. All the while there are pictures of
the NYPD giving out masks to white sunbathers in a park

10. Blacks are sentenced on average of 19% longer
sentences than that of white men.

11. In conclusion the constant reminder of racial
disparity unfortunately reminds us that the
inequality between races still shines through till
today.Thankfully with the development of the
internet and other means of communication there
has been a bigger spotlight shined on the ugly
blemish that is racism in America.
