• These are your last two hours on applications, resume, and cover
letter. By the end, students need to have final, edited, good-as-
possible copies of all 3 items completed in their Foundation Course
binder. Plan a stretch break, as needed.
• Circulate, monitor, assist students, refer them to the rubric, and
remind them of the time.

• In this hour, you’ll cover Job Skills 3: job survival, workers’ rights and
responsibilities, and apprenticeships. Adjust your normal
materials/approaches for this section to fit in the allotted time. For
apprenticeships, you need to mention how apprenticeships work in the
construction industry.
• Since workers’ rights and responsibilities is not always the most exciting
topic for students, you might want to try covering this through a learning
strategy called Jigsaw.
• Unpack the Jigsaw activity in the “Try” section within today’s lesson or
link to the Jigsaw strategy to learn more.
5. Week Two: Day 8 (Wednesday)
Third and Fourth Hours (9:40 – 11:30) - 3
60 minutes
• Today, students begin with a review of their preparation to date and then
write their thank-you letter. They will practice for their interview
tomorrow.
• Reviewing preparation to date: Have students meet in Work Teams to
review each other’s checklist answers, particularly the answers to the
questions in items #5-9. The idea is to have everyone help get each
person’s answers as clear and relevant as possible.

• Writing the thank-you letter:
1. Explain the purpose of the thank-you letter.
2. Give students a copy of the thank-you letter rubric and review
each part of the rubric with the whole group.
3. Have students meet with their Pair-Share partners to write their
thank-you letter draft and edit it for grammar, organization, and
clarity, using the rubric.
4. Have students meet as Work Teams to review each other’s
drafts and make suggestions.
5. Then each student writes the final draft of their thank-you letter
and places it in the binder.

• Questions for Week 2 Quiz: Choose two areas from today’s
presentations and activities. Create 3 multiple choice questions,
like those shown for Day 1, that focus on the most important
information in those areas.

AFTER HOURS
• Work Team assignment (approximately 1 hour). Teams will carry
out their work plan for the CSS assignment. They also will review
for the Week 2 quiz tomorrow.
