For the instructor, we invited Ms. Jana Hopkins (Gunma-ken ‘13-‘15). She holds a BA in Sociology
and Chinese Language with a Japanese language minor from UC Berkeley, and is currently studying
at UC San Diego School of Global Policy and Strategy focusing in Japanese business. In total she has
studied Japanese for the last 7 years, and is at JLPT N2 business proficiency level and Japanese Kanji
Proficiency Level 6. Jana, who started to learn Japanese as a freshman in college, knows the difficulty
and shyness one gets when learning a new language and hopes to encourage you all to start your
Japanese language journey. In this course, Jana wants to not only teach you useful survival Japanese,
but also to create a cross-cultural experience by immersing you into activities that you would use to
teach your students in JET.
