Of all age groups, those between 18 and 34 are the least prepared
when it comes to will writing. Only 17 per cent of people in this
category have written up their final wishes, the research reveals.
• If someone dies without a will, rules dictate how their money, property
or possessions should be allocated, and potentially not in the way the
deceased would have wished
• Unmarried partners and partners who have not registered a civil
partnership cannot inherit from each other unless there is a will
• If there are no surviving relatives who can inherit under the rules of
intestacy, the estate passes to the Crown

People in London and the North West are least likely to make
a will, while adults in the North East are most likely to write up
their wishes, the findings add.
