Jamie McGill's Participation in Politics Project. This is for my GOVT2305 course at Grayson College. It concerns the various of things that we learned in the class as well as what our take home is.

I am majoring in Early Elementary

2. Reasons why I am motivated to be an
active citizen:
Participation in Politics Project 2
I know that if you want to experience
change that you then need to be a
part of the change. So, I want to vote
so my voice is heard.
I also want to vote so that I can be a
part of maintaining the rights that we
have such as the ability to carry a
weapon with the proper credentials.
This right is something that I want to
stay the same.
Something that I would like to
change is the requirement for people
to have the Covid-19 vaccine in
certain businesses. I don’t think
people should be punished for opting
out of it. Seeing as how this is
supposed to be the land of equal
opportunity.

3. Things that I learned:
Participation in Politics Project 3
I never realized the full complexities of the
government. I like how everyone has a job in
our federal government and that the there is
separation of the powers. I think that as a
democracy we should have our powers
separated like we do. I never realized how well
the government had the powers separated and
I think it restored some faith for me in our
democracy.
I also wasn’t aware of how many executive
orders that the presidents make throughout
their presidency. I loved reading about the
different orders that they had and how
important of initiatives they were to them. For
example, I had no idea that former president
Donald Trump had an order about censorship
on social media. I found it very interesting to
begin to have, I think, a deeper understanding
of the presidents.
I would love to learn more about the different
kinds of executive orders that other presidents
have made and the effect that these orders had
on America as a whole.
I was not expecting to get to dive so deep into
the reasons and statistics of why people vote
and what makes them more likely to vote. I
thought it was very useful to understand that
entire concept and take the opportunity to
categorize myself into the statistics.

4. Political Issue that is important to
future generations: Arms Control
Participation in Politics Project 4
The arms control issue is that they are basically trying to
limit the number and kinds of weapons that we have
access to. I truly see no problem with that.
However, I think it will soon become the disarmament
issue which is a definite problem because the use of guns
for protection is in many cases necessary for the safety of
everyone involved.
I think this will be significant for the future because the
world is getting more dangerous and the need for ”good”
people to have guns will only grow unfortunately because
“bad” people will always have access.

5. Most Important
Amendment: Freedom of
Speech
Participation in Politics Project 5
I believe that the most important
amendment is freedom of speech.
This is because if you are not
given permission to speak as you
will, then you are not living in a
democracy, in my opinion.
Without freedom of speech, we
would not be able to speak out
freely about or religion and other
beliefs such as politics. If we
cannot speak out freely than we
cannot function as a true
democracy.
Freedom of speech is often
considered a basic human right
because it is so common in
America, but I know that if it were
taken away, we would feel as
though, our entire person was
being threatened.

6. Things I will take with me:
• I have learned that we are pretty much a
finely tuned system kept by separation of
powers and checks and balances. Each
systems works to make sure that our
government is running smoothly and for the
right reasons.
• I learned that our voice matters and that for
things to change we must vote and let our
voice be heard.
• I also learned that there is more work being
done on the government’s as well as
president’s end than we think. They are
constantly working on executive orders, bills,
and making laws that will improve us as a
society. So, it is our job to make sure we are
voting on these efforts.
