1. Some life experiencesthatleadme intowantingtobe a registereddietitianisthroughsuffering
withmyweight. Throughouthighschool,Iwasvery active withmarchingbandand track. This
gave me a passto eat whateverIwantedwheneverIwanted,and all the fastfood/sweetsdid
not affectmy physique oroverall health.Once Imovedontocollege,mypatternsdidnot
change.At thispoint,Iate evenmore foodbecause of the dininghall buffets. Once Ireached
my sophomore year,Ihadgainedover40 poundsandsufferingwithsevere digestive issues. I
was veryunhappy because mybodyfelttiredwith mystomachconstantlyhurting.AsIwas
surfingthe internet,Icame acrossa ladywhowrote a blogabout herweightlossexperience.
Her storyon howshe put on weightand the healthproblemsshe hadacquired were identical to
mine. Herstory emphasizedthatshe hadlostmore than 50 pounds,and that she was currently
trainingfora marathon. Later inthe blog, I readshe was a registereddietitian. AsIdidmore
and more researchon whatan RD was, the more and more I likedthe job. Ifollowedthis
woman’snutritiontipsaswell asexerciseplans andfoundmotivationtobecome healthier
throughher.Readingall the commentsandreviewsabouthernutritionplans,she hadtouched
so manypeople includingmyself.Seeingall those aspiredme tobe like her. She hadtouched
and savedsomany livesforthe better,and continuedtoeducate everyone aroundherabout
health. Iwant to become anRD like herbecause itallowsme to educate andprovide toolsfor
the publicto helpbetterchange lives. Ilearnedthe basicsof weightlossfromher,butIwant to
continue tolearnaboutall the differentaspectstonutritionsoIcan share my knowledge and
continue tobetterthe livesof the public. Ifeel itissoenjoyable towatchsomeone come from
an unhealthystate,toa healthierone byassistingthemthroughtheirgoals.
2. 2. My primaryworkvaluesinclude havingstrongrelationships, achievementof goals,andworking
withingoodconditions. Ifeel itisimportanttohave strong relationshipswithfellow coworkers,
bosses,andpatients/clients. Inorderto workwell andefficiently,itisimportanttodevelop
trust andbuilda strongcommunicationbetweencoworkersandbosses. These strong
relationshipswithinthe workareaalsodirectlyaffectpeople towhomare receiving service. If
the foundationwithinthe workplace isbroken,thenitisharderto give the bestcounselingto
clients/patients. The numberone prioritywhenworkingwithclientsistonotonlyhelpthem,
but to showcompassion. Noone wantstotalk to someone whoiscoldordistant. With
compassionbuildsrapportandtrust,andboth youand the clientwill fullybenefitinthe end.
Also,Ifeel itisimportant ina job to be challengedandtosetachievable goals. The jobgets
more flatand boringif there isno challenge ornew setof skillsbeingputintoplace. Withthat
boredomcome laziness. Withnew skill setsbeinglearned,andmore interesting workbeing
done,itcreatesa strongerworkethic. People oftenfeel goodabouttheirworkwhenthey
achievedagoal. Whenthere isa focuson a goal,people are more willingtoputinmore effort
to reach that goal. Lastly,I feel itisimportanttohave goodworkingconditionsinorderto do
qualitywork.Thisincludeshavingaclean/safe environment,manytoolstohelpgettasksdone,
receivingbenefitswithadesirablepay,andhavingavarietyof tasks to doon the job. Ina job,I
feel itisnotworth to workfor someone whoputsmy healthindanger. Workinginthe health
care system,itisimportantto make sure myown healthisincheckbefore Itry and assists
patientswiththeirhealth. Also,toolsshouldbe available inordertobe successful ata job.
Toolsare oftenusedto getthe jobdone more efficiently,andwithoutthemitmaytake even
longertocomplete atask. Furthermore,itisimportanttohave a job that paysyouback
appropriatelyforyourwork.Itis importantasan employee thatyouare receivingthe benefits
youdeserve fromanemployer.
3. 3. My topprioritiesinlifeare myhealth,family,andschool. Healthismynumberone priority
because youcannothelpothersuntil youhelpyourself. If yourhealthisnotwhere itshouldbe,
thenmanyotheraspectsof your life are beingeffected. We onlyhave one bodyandthat body
needstobe takencare of. I take the time everydayto maintainmyhealthsoI am happyinside
and out. Once myhealthisgood,I will focusonmy family. Myfamilyhassupportedme
throughmy difficultiesin middle school,mystressof marchingband,myfinancial needsof
college,andmyemotional stresswithgrowingup. Since theyhave beenthereforme,Iwill
alwaysbe there forthem. I may not be able to helpthemfinanciallynow,but emotionallyIcan
alwayshelpthroughthe difficulttimes.Lastly,school hasalwaysbeenabigpart of my life. I
spendhourseachand everysingle nighttomake sure myassignmentsare completed. Ialso
don’ttry and getby school withthe bare minimum of justcompletingassignments.Itryand get
the most outof my learningandstrive forthe bestgradesI can receive.Iconstantlyhave goals
withschool,andI alwayshave a focus. Currentlymyfocusis graduatingwithBSinDietetics.My
goalsare to getintoan internshipandlaterreceive myRDlicense.
4. If I hadto describe mypersonality,Iwoulddescribeitasambitious,humble/friendly,
hardworking,andtrusting. Iam ambitiousbecause Icontinue tofocusonany particulargoal I
have. For example,inmypersonal life Ihave astrongpassionforfitness. Ihave particulargoals
that I have to pushmyself toliftheavierandmaintainaleanphysique. Icontinuallygotogym
for 2 hours-6 daysa week,andcount mycalories/macrostomake sure mynutritionhelps
supportsmyneeds. Continuallygoingtothe gymand eatingright,Isee positive resultswhich
keepsme motivatedtopushevenharderandhardertowardsmy goals. I notonlyhave
motivationtobe fit,butI carry thatmotivationinmy school work. I constantlysetgoalsfor
myself toreceive bettergradesonassignmentsandexams,andsetoverall goals like receiving
my BS indietetics. Those goalskeepme focusedandmotivatedtobettermyself everyday. If

will alwayssee me withasmile onmyface and socializingwithpeoplearoundme. Iam never
distant,andI try to be downto earth whentalkingtoanyone. Because I’mfriendlyandoveralla
happyperson,Itendto work verywell withothers. Mymotois to treat othersina waythat you
wouldlike tobe treated. Iwouldconsidermyselfahard workerbecause Iam on topof work
that isneededtobe done,andI will neversave itforlateror put the workloadon someone
else.Forexample,atthe coffee shopIworkat, I alwaystake initiativetogetworkdutiesdone.
You will neversee me standingaroundsocializingwithothercoworkers,andmybossneverhas
to ask me to do any tasks. I typicallyenjoyhavingtogetworkdone firstbefore enjoyment.
Lastly,I considermyself trustingbecause of my maturity. Ineverforgetanyimportanttasks
neededtobe done. Inevertry and take the shortcutto make myself lookbetter,andIam
considerate of otherpeople. Idowhat isaskedof me and will dothattask to the bestof my
abilitytoprove thatI am trust worthy.
5. Some personal strengthsIhave wouldincludethatIam dependable,flexible,hardworking,and
a team player.Some jobbasedstrengthsIhave ispeople,planning,andcommunicationskills.
Some knowledgebasedstrengthsIhave iscommuterskills,andastrongnutritionknowledge
basedbackground. Onthe otherhand,I do have weaknesses. SometimesIcanbe too shy when
meetingnewpeople,Ican be too critical of myself,anditmay take me a little longertofigure
out latestsoftware orprograms. I feel mypublicspeakingskillscouldbe stronger,aswell as,
payingattentiontolittle detailsandnotrushingthroughatask or problem.
6. In the nextyearI see myself professionallystartingafoodscience career. My goal is to
complete mydieteticinternship,andreceive mylicense of beingaregistereddietitian. Iwould
love toone-dayworkclose tomy hometownof Broomfield,andworkata companycalled
WhiteWave. There Ican be closelybe workingwithorganicfoodproductsthatare distributed
5. across the UnitedStates. On the otherhand,withinthe nextyearIcan see myself personally
beingmore confidentandreadytotake on the world. I currentlylive athome,sowhenIstart
my careerI can see myself movingoutandgettingmyownapartment.
7. If all goeswell inthe nextfive years,Icansee myself startingmyownbusiness. Mypassionis
fitness,andIwouldlove toputmy passionintoa businesstohelppeople reachtheirfitness
goalsthroughnutrition. Iwill notonlysetupmeal plans,and give themtipsabouttheirdiet,
but I wouldalsolike assistthemintheirworkouts. Bythistime,Iwouldlike tocontinue my
educationtogetmy mastersinsports andexercise science.
8. If thingsdon’tgo as plannedinthe nextfive years,Iplantoat leastlanda jobinthe fieldof
nutrition.If Ido not getan internship,Iplantoworkas a dietetictechfora year and applythe
followingfall. If I donot have enoughmoneyortime to getmy mastersinexercise science,then
I can go throughonline classestogetmypersonal trainingcertification. If Icannot start my own
business,thenIcantry to buildupmy clientele byapplyingforjobsina fitnesscenterthatwill
getme experience andleadme tomeetingnew peopleandsellingmyimage.
9. As I statedabove,myperfectjobwouldbe tohave myown business. Iwouldlove tomotivate
and helppeople reachtheirfitnessgoalsthroughnutrition. Also,since Ihave astrongpassion
for fitnessIwouldalsolove toworkforan athlete ora sports team. Workingwithsomeone who
isa professional inthe athleticworldtakesnutritiontothe nextlevel. Iwouldthe challengeand
the energizingenvironmentworkingwithathleteswhohave the same passionasIdo.
