MBTI Assignment
After completing the MBTI assessment and doing the assessment portion online using the
PowerPoint I got the letters ISTP. Introversion, sensing, thinking, and perceiving are the
characteristics that go with my findings. Although while looking through the power point to
make a decision on which I was more alike, I found myself torn between a couple of them. I
know we use both of them throughout our lives, and I guess I’ll just have to wait until I get my
actual report back to see what I really got.
For the first letter between extraversion and introversion I went with introversion. I chose
this letter because I feel like it describes me better than extraversion. I’m typically a quiet person
in nature, not too out going unless I know you well. I’m the kind of person who will think before
he performs an action while using my inner self to help my decisions. I do most of my thinking
to myself unless I really have a problem with what is happening. I believe that taking all the
information in before making a decision. This can come off as being shy which makes sense for
me. Recently I have been getting better on opening up with others quicker in relationships
whether personal or professional. A good example of my introversion would be in high school; I
was always the quiet one and would sit taking in all the things that were going around me.
The second letter between sensing and intuition I chose sensing. I chose this letter
because this is how I take in information when given. I use my 5 senses a lot in my life. Being an
introversion type of person I rely a lot on my senses to give me direction in making decisions.
Recently we moved to Duluth, MN and I told my fiancé that I would need to visit the city and
get a good feel of the environment before we moved. I think this would reflect pretty high on the
2. sensing scale on the MBTI. I think choosing the sensing letter helps give me an opportunity to
think about the pros and cons of each decision I make, which makes me feel a lot better when
making a decision. I’m way more practical, factual, and realistic when it comes the way I handle
information giving to me than just “winging it.”
The third letter is between thinking and feeling. With this one I had a hard time choosing.
I personally believe that imp split on these two, but I went with thinking for this exercise. When
making decisions I try to lean towards the logical, realistic approach to the situation, but I’m also
a very considerate person so it conflicts once in a while. Each situation in life is different than
another one which makes it hard. Making a decision with a family member I view differently
with one with a co-worker. I try to put logic and understanding first but it can be difficult with
emotion ties to people. I will be very interested in which one I got on the actual assessment. An
example would be (pertaining to me moving) whether or not I should get a job. My job ended a
month and half before we moved. So should I get a job or get unemployment for 1.5 months?
Logical it would make more sense on not having a job for that short amount of time and learning
a bunch of new things when I was leaving so soon. I chose not to take a job because it felt more
logical to me. I found that thinking goes well with my sensing letter in the previous paragraph.
The last letter is between judging and perceiving. This one I chose the perceiving letter
for my assessment. When living life in our world I go with a more laid back approach. If you
can’t be flexible in life than you will be overwhelmed with it and nobody wants that. Things
happen in life that you can’t control no matter who you are and I think I fall more into that way
of thinking than the other way. This was another one I had a harder time picking because I do
like to have plans laid out for trips and my future. An example of this would be when I went to
Colorado for a hiking trip with friends on the day we were going on our longest, biggest hike it
3. down poured. So instead we had to change our plans and waited to see how the weather was
going to be. We had to improvise and just go with it, until we had a better day of hiking.
