2. Production
This was a $200 short film made by a small unit of friends under the banner of RocketJump
who hoped to create a Call of Duty fan film.
They had a small cast and crew of around ten people, 8 actors and stunt performers with one
or two people working on the camera.
Making use of the different locations in a similar environment increased the production value.
Post production consisted of quality assets expertly applied to the scenes by their small team
of VFX artists
3. Airfield Sequence
Set in an actual small airfield, likely
owned by a friend or contact, this
scene included a grand background,
interesting CGI elements such as
planes and trucks, and a collection of
realistic props and costumes.
Though a majority of shots, if not all,
were filmed hand held, the filmmakers
made use of a steady cam rig in order
to present a more clear and high
budget production despite their use of
a digital camera.
4. Woods Fight
Using their camera handheld in this scene, they created dramatic shots of the chase creating
an immersive and interesting sequence for the narrative.
Further on in this scene, the teams VFX skills are more prevalent, with their muzzle flash and
blood splatter effects creating the look of the Call of Duty video games upon which this short
film based.
Using music similar to that of the game allowed for more connotations to the material that
inspired the piece. Additionally sound effects and dialogue are drawn directly from the game
further connecting to the original.
5. Result
Not only was it a highly praised fan film of such a popular video game at the time, but be
even ten years on, and it still receives credit for its production value and look.
When it was released it had a huge impact on the creators, launching several more projects
and eventually leading to the creation of Corridor Digital, Stress level zero and the Freddie
W channels.
