  visitors

  PFLC	
  complete	
  the	
  sign-­‐in	
  sheet	
  every	
  time	
  they	
  visit,	
  as	
  the	
  Ministry	
  of	
  
Education	
  requires	
  monthly	
  attendance	
  reports.	
  
	
  
• Make	
  sure	
  everyone	
  signs	
  into	
  the	
  book	
  at	
  the	
  door	
  
• Ask	
  if	
  this	
  is	
  their	
  first	
  visit	
  this	
  school	
  year	
  
o If	
  so,	
  they	
  must	
  complete	
  a	
  Registration	
  Form	
  and	
  Photo	
  Consent	
  Form	
  
o These	
  forms	
  are	
  located	
  in	
  the	
  blue	
  binder	
  at	
  the	
  door	
  
o Place	
  these	
  forms	
  in	
  the	
  purple	
  folder	
  under	
  the	
  sign	
  in	
  sheets

  confidentiality

  • 4. 4   PFLC  RESOURCE  MANUAL   Set  Up   8:30  –  9:00am     During  this  period,  you  will  prepare  the  classroom  for  the  upcoming  day.  Feel  free  to  ask  any  staff  about   any  further  questions  you  have  about  the  school.     • Set  up  learning  activities/puzzles  on  the  tables   • Clean  and  organize  Sand  Table   • Set  out  art  at  the  Art  Table   • At  the  paint  easel,  prepare  2-­‐4  colours  and  2-­‐4  brushes   • Set  out  books  and  CDs  for  carpet  time  (children  may  request  their  favourites)   • CD  music  can  be  played  low  throughout  the  morning   • Remove  the  lid  from  the  sensory  table     • Have  the  sign  in  book  ready  with  the  date  and  stickers   • Prepare  fresh  pot  of  coffee  for  about  10  guests  and  offer  tea  as  well   • Offer  to  guests  that  they  may  make  some  as  they’d  like  throughout  the  day       Sign-­‐In  Procedure     It  is  essential  that  all  visitors  to  the  PFLC  complete  the  sign-­‐in  sheet  every  time  they  visit,  as  the  Ministry  of   Education  requires  monthly  attendance  reports.     • Make  sure  everyone  signs  into  the  book  at  the  door   • Ask  if  this  is  their  first  visit  this  school  year   o If  so,  they  must  complete  a  Registration  Form  and  Photo  Consent  Form   o These  forms  are  located  in  the  blue  binder  at  the  door   o Place  these  forms  in  the  purple  folder  under  the  sign  in  sheets  for  confidentiality  reasons   • Show  caregivers  and  children  where  to  hang  their  coats,  outdoor  shoes/boots,  and  park  strollers  or   any  other  outdoor  materials   • Record  the  number  of  children  and  the  number  of  adults  on  the  sign  in  sheet  at  the  end  of  the  day     Sign-­‐in  sheets  must  also  be  completed  on  the  days  of  family  trips  or  excursions  from  the  PFLC.

PFLC  RESOURCE  MANUAL   5   Play  To  Learn   9:00  –  10:10am     • Open  the  play  centres   • Feel  free  to  demonstrate  an  art  activity  (craft  supplies  are  on  the  shelf  under  the  window)     • Please  monitor  and  ensure  that  the  children  are  safe  when  playing   • Demonstrate  proper  use  of  learning  activities   • Ensure  that  the  children  understand  how  to  clean  up  after  playing,  as  this  will  prevent  the  room   from  becoming  a  huge  mess  very  quickly   • Facilitate  activities  that  promote  early  learning   • Engage  parents  in  their  child’s  learning     Snack  Time   10:15  –  10:35am       NOTE:  Feel  free  to  postpone  snack  time  depending  on  the  children’s  arrival  time  and  hunger     Preparation     • The  snacks  need  to  be  prepared  ahead  of  time   o If  there  are  regular  caregivers  available,  they  will  usually  help  you  prepare  the  snacks  or  do   prepare  the  snacks  themselves   • Food  is  located  in  the  fridge  or  cupboard     • Caregivers  should  select  what  their  child  will  eat   • Each  snack  should  involve  a  carbohydrate,  a  protein  and  a  fruit  or  vegetable   • Use  tongs  to  serve  any  fruits  or  vegetables   • Perform  all  the  cutting  yourself  for  safety  reasons   • Wash  and  store  the  knife  immediately  after  use     Eating     • Clear  and  wipe  down  tables   • Place  a  dish  and  a  cup  for  each  child   • Children  must  remain  seated  during  snack  time   • Do  not  allow  children  to  wander  with  food  in  their  hands      
  • 6. 6   PFLC  RESOURCE  MANUAL   Tidy  Up   10:35  –  10:40am     • Clean  any  remaining  dishes  and  put  any  leftover  food  back  in  the  fridge   • Feel  free  to  leave  any  leftover  snacks  on  a  tray  for  any  late  arriving  children,  or  if  any  child  gets   hungry  later   • Tidy  up  any  remaining  messes  in  the  room       Gym  Time   10:40  –  11:00am  -­‐  *11:25am  if  gym  is  available  afterward     • Encourage  children  to  walk  quietly  to  the  gym     • Take  out  only  what  you  will  need  from  storage   • Caregivers  will  normally  help  as  they  know  what  their  child  likes  most   • Safety  is  the  biggest  concern   • Try  and  clean  up  within  the  last  5  minutes  of  gym  time   • Return  to  the  classroom     Ideas  for  Gym  Time     • Use  balls  to  play  catch,  rolling  or  kicking  activities   • Use  hoola  hoops  to  roll  or  hop  through   • Mime  movements:  bears,  frogs,  bunnies,  horses,  racecars,  kangaroos,  etc.   • Bring  out  bikes  and  cars  for  children  to  drive  around  in   • For  any  babies,  place  mats  and  pylons  around  for  safety   • Use  the  balance  beam   • Play  basketball   • Use  the  parachute  and  roll  a  ball  inside  from  child  to  child

PFLC  RESOURCE  MANUAL   7   Carpet  Time   11:00  –  11:20am  *11:25  –  11:45am  (depending  on  your  Gym  Time)     During  this  time,  everyone  will  be  seated  on  the  carpet  and  you  will  encourage  the  children  to  listen  to   stories  or  sing  along  to  playful  songs.     Music  Time     • Invite  the  children  and  caregivers  to  sit  together  on  the  carpet   • Feel  free  to  do  any  song,  poem,  or  finger  play  you  would  like   • Be  sure  to  teach  the  children  first  as  they  may  be  unfamiliar     Story  Time     Depending  on  the  age  range  and  attention  span  of  children,  choose  whether  or  not  to  do  story  time,  or  skip   it  for  an  interactive  learning  activity.   • Read  1-­‐2  stories  for  the  entire  classroom       Reading  Time   11:25  –  11:30am     • Invite  the  caregivers  and  children  to  choose  a  book  and  read  together   • If  a  caregiver  has  more  than  one  child,  offer  to  read  to  one  of  the  children  yourself   • It  is  very  important  to  leave  time  for  this,  as  caregivers  and  children  love  the  one-­‐on-­‐one  time       Quiet  Time   11:30am  –  12:30pm     • Encourage  children  to  continue  reading  books   • Set  out  puzzles,  play  dough,  and  other  learning  materials  on  tables   • Set  out  plastic  mats  for  play  dough   • If  the  weather  is  nice,  feel  free  to  bring  the  children  outside  to  the  playground    
  • 8. 8   PFLC  RESOURCE  MANUAL   Home  Time   12:30  –  1:00pm     • Assist  any  parent  with  dressing  a  child  if  necessary   • Say  goodbye  to  each  child   • Begin  closing  any  remaining  big  centres   • Clean  up  any  remaining  seated  learning  activities           Clean  Up   1:00pm  –  1:30     • Close  all  the  remaining  learning  centres   • Collect  all  remaining  dishes  and  toys  that  need  washing   • Wash  the  dishes   • Clean  the  coffee  pot  and  teapot   • Spray  wash  infant  toys  that  were  used  with  Natural  and  air  dry   • Use  Natural  to  clean  tables   • Wipe  down  baby  change  area  using  Virox  and  a  rag   • Wash  any  leftover  paint  brushes  and  paint  lids   • Return  all  books  and  toys  to  their  proper  places   • Clean  and  dry  the  sink   • Record  the  number  of  children  and  the  number  of  adults  on  the  sign  in  sheet   • Write  a  note  about  your  day   o What  was  covered  during  the  morning?   o Did  any  problems  occur?   o Any  suggestions?   o Any  further  questions?
