This document outlines a strategy for Notre Dame College to connect with and support at-risk first-year students. It proposes sending a Cleveland map brochure to students over the summer to familiarize them with campus and city resources and encourage exploration. The map would feature local attractions in categories like sightseeing, sports, entertainment, shopping and nightlife. It aims to strengthen students' bond with the college community during a vulnerable time and facilitate career networking over the summer in Cleveland.
2. Objectives:
Reminding targeted students of personal attention
Encouraging them to connect to the College
Informing them of and streamlining access to
resources to assist with identified issues
3. Audiences:
Full-time first-year traditional undergraduate students
at their most at-risk times as indicated by the College’s
committee:
After they are accepted but before they have enrolled
(still high school students)
Their first few months on campus
During the spring semester of their first year
At the point they become rising sophomores
4. Strategy:
A yearlong series of touch points with first-year students
Audience-specific, fiscally responsible outreach
Tangible communications for impact and to convey
students are valued by the College
Personalized to the extent possible
Target delivery at times of stress and homesickness
All printed pieces to be supported with online components:
Web “ad” and landing page of resources, with social media
to be determined
5. Concept: Cleveland Map Brochure
Individual, personalized mailing at most at-risk point
in time
Connect to Cleveland as well as College community
Interactive, see other attractions, other students’ trips
and create personal agenda online
Keep engaged with College during summer
Start to make internship and career connections with
area institutions
6. The Cleveland Map is a way for NDC to get the
students connected with its city. Once these students
see what great things Cleveland has to offer they will
be intrigued to attend events at these great venues.
Since 80% of the students at NDC are from the state of
Ohio, they are likely to explore Cleveland in the
summer along with planning events for the fall.
The map provides activities for everyone including:
Sight Seeing, Sports, Entertainment, Shopping, and
Nightlife.
