2. History of Philips
Established in 1891 by Anton and Gerard Philips in
Eindhoven, Netherland.
Started with manufacturing of carbon-filament lamps and
became largest producer in Europe.
By 1910, with 2,000 employees, Philips was the largest
single employer in The Netherlands.
First research laboratory was established in 1914 and the
company started introducing its first innovations in the x-ray
and radio technology.
In 1925, Philips became involved in the first experiments
in television and, in 1927, began producing radios

4. Philips in India
Philips started operations in India at Kolkata (Calcutta) in 1930.
Philips India set up its first Indian lamp-manufacturing factory in 1938
in Kolkata.
In 1959, a second radio factory is established near Pune.
In 1963, Philips invents the compact audio tape cassette.
In 1970 a new consumer electronics factory is started in Pimpri near
Pune.
In 1982, Philips brings colour television transmission to India.
In 1983, Philips launches the Compact Disc and revolutionizes the way
the world listens to music.
