2. Prior to their Hackathon, the North
Carolina team developed two types of
trainings for their volunteers. They created
a hands-on CS First training for the
“Genworth” volunteers to prepare them for
their time in the Club. Secondly, they
established another detailed training for
their “NC State Goodnight Scholar”
volunteers. Each group of volunteers had a
folder with materials that included (agenda,
worksheet, etc.) They went through all the
materials in the folders to connect them to
how each group should keep their children
on-track throughout the day—Zenzele
demonstrating to one student.
3. Prototype Worksheet TemplateThe prototype worksheets
were given to the children
in an effort to brainstorm
the apps they were to
create during the
Hackathon. Kelly &
Zenzele developed this
tool so that the children
could draw out what they
wanted the different
screens of their app to
look like. This tool was
proved beneficial for the
children.
4. A North Carolina State
“Goodnight Scholar”
Volunteer Trained
Students At Hackathon
The volunteer college
student is in the STEM
program. He assisted Kelly
and Zenzele during a recent
Hackathon on December
5, 2015, at the Teen
Center. There were 50
children in attendance
along with about a dozen
parents to showcase this
event.
