2. Objectives
a. Identify the different electrical hand tools
b. determine the materials needed for electrical installation.
c. Sustain interest in explaining the uses and function of tools and
equipment used in electrical installation
and maintenance
d. Classify tools according to its specification, uses and function
3. Introduction
Electrical task can be accomplished
systematically to save time, effort, and resources.
Most of the work cannot be done using bare
hands. To do the task, electrical tools or materials
are needed to perform the job.
4. 1. Screwdrivers -these tools are made of steel hardened and
tempered at the tip used to loosen or tighten screws with slotted
heads. They come in various sizes and shapes.
1.1 Flat Screwdriver - the blade tip is wedge shaped
and resembles a negative (-) sign. This is used to drive
screws with a single slot head.
Common Electrical tools used in EIM
5. Screwdrivers
1.2 Phillips Screwdriver- this
has a cross tip resembling a
positive (+) sign. This is used to
drive screws with cross slot heads.
1.3 Allen Screwdriver/
Wrench- This could be in the
shape of screwdriver or a wrench,
its function is to drive a screw
with hexagonal slot head.
6. Screwdrivers
1.4 Stubby Screwdriver -
it comes in either Standard or
Phillips screwdriver with short
shank or blade and a shorted
handle, used to turn screws in
tight space where standard
screwdriver cannot be used.
7. Pliers
2. Pliers - are made of metal with insulators in the handle.
They are used for cutting, twisting, bending, and holding wires
and cables.
2.1 Combination Pliers – usually called as
linemen’s pliers, used to hold, bend, and cut
electrical wires and cables.
8. Pliers
2.2 Side Cutting Pliers – also
called as diagonal pliers. This type
of pliers is used for cutting small
to medium size of wires
2.3 Long Nose Pliers - This
could be in the shape of
screwdriver or a wrench, its
function is to drive a screw with
hexagonal slot head.
9. Claw Hammer
3. Claw Hammer - a
special type of hammer,
which is in pounding nails,
striking surfaces, and
extracting nails from some
object or surface.
10. Hacksaw
4. Hacksaw - this
tool is manually cut
metal/PVC conduits
and other metals.
13. Wire Striper
7. Wire Stripper - this is a tool used for removing insulation of
medium-sized wires. It has two types:
7.1 Manual - has round holes that correspond to wire
size. Removing of insulation is done while squeezing
and pulling out wire. This can also be used to cut
medium- sized copper wires.
14. Wire Stripper
7.2 Automatic - operated by squeezing where one
end will hold the wire and the other will remove the
insulation, has spring to retain to original position.
15. Pipe Bender
8. Pipe bender – a tool used to bend rigid metallic conduit
by the use of hands and/or foot
8.1 Hydraulic Pipe bender – this type of
bender uses hydraulic (oil) pressure to
bend various sizes of metallic pipes
16. Pull-push Rule
9. Pull-push rule – also
known as tape measure, which
is retractable and coils into a
compact case. It is used for
measuring linear and
perpendicular distance, usually
has inch and centimeter as units
of measurement
17. Angle Grinder
10. Angle Grinder –
an electric tool that has
a replaceable disc and
can be used in cutting,
grinding, and polishing.
