The controversial 1960s song Ndari ya Mwarimu bears an omnipresence my mind.
Simple guitar, vocals and bare knuckle taps on a table top. It was a hit. Hundreds more
followed. I was thrilled to work for him in the 1980s and 90s, designing his album
sleeve jackets – from compilations of his early hits to his pre-born again X-rated CDs.
He claimed my artwork had a 'charm' that helped his music sell. This man, a yardstick
for other Kikuyu Popular Folk Music performers, is an absolute embodiment of
Kenyan music and joins our Hall of Fame.
