Towers and churches
Since in the distance one can see the horizon landscape that draw its majestic baroque
towers. There are 4 towers that comprise Jerez de los Caballeros, presenting various
styles: Baroque, Moorish, neo-classical and Gothic. The oldest temple dates from 6th
Century (Visigoth). In the interior of the churches are veritable treasure genuine artistic
and religious jewellery as Baroque altarpieces, Renaissance Paintings, Imagery of 17th
Century, musical organ, choir stalls, tombs, mummies, etc.
Town Walls and Gates
The first walls were built by the Arabs to protect “Xerixa”. In the 13th
Century, the Templars
took the “Villa de Xerez” and renamed “Xerez Equitum”. That's when the Templars rebuilt the
wall with its 26 towers fortified vigils. The wallet enclosure is accessed through 6 doors of which
currently only two remain: “La Puerta de Burgos” and the “Puerta de la Villa” (with the
baroque altarpiece of St. Antonio de Padua) retaining its almost intact physiognomy.
The Vasco Nuñez Museum
The birthplace Vasco Nuñez de Balboa is located on “Calle La Oliva” and is designed
in its restoration, as a centre of interpretation which it defines three areas within the
exhibition section: one dedicated to conquerors and explorers with the figure of Vasco
Nuñez de Balboa as protagonist and open to topics like the art of cartography or
navigation, another dedicated to the history of the city and a third focused on famous
people and important chapters in the history of Jerez de los Caballeros as the
presence of the Templars.

Palaces and Manor Houses
There are more than 14 Palaces and Manor Houses hosting the city of Jerez de los
Caballeros, as it is for the establishment of the Order of Santiago in the city, when it
gets a greater splendour with the arrival of nobles and wealthy bourgeois.
The Templar Fortress
In the 13th
Century, the Knights Templar under the command of Alfonso IX of Leon
takes the “Villa de Xerez” and makes “Bayliato” capital. The Templars consolidate the
Arab fortress leading to what is now known as the Templar Fortress and erected the
walls that protected the city. Inside the fortress is the keep, known as the ''Bloody
Tower '' because, according to legend, she was beheaded in the last Knights Templar.
