  4. 4. Animal-assisted therapy (AAT) is a type of therapythat involves animals as a form of treatment. The goalof AAT is to improve a patient’s social, emotional, orcognitive functioning. Animals used in therapy includedomesticated pets, farm animals and marine mammals(such as dolphins).
  5. 5. Dogs are common in animal-assistedtherapy. Assistance dogs can assist people withmany different disabilities; they are capable ofassisting certain life activities and help theindividuals navigate outside home.
  6. 6. Horses are also oftenly used in assistedanimal therapy. Hippotherapy can be used as a treatmentfor people with physical or mental challenges.
