Executive summary
This survey, about the risks youngsters take these days, gives a clear insight in how much risks
they actually take. The chosen risks are financial risks, risks concerning smoking cigarettes and
the risks of drinking alcohol. Now, after everybody filled in the survey we came across a few
surprises and jaw dropping statistics, but in general, the pupils don't take a lot of risks.
Introduction
This report will look at:
● our expectations
● financial risks
● risks concering smoking
● alcohol consumption in our class
Findings
When we were first searching for questions to make a survey about risk, we thought that the
people in our class would be risk-takers. We are young students, who like to party and drink
alcohol. When reading the results of the survey, we saw that our thoughts were not right. The
students in our class are actually very carefully.
We have chosen three questions that surprised us the most. The first question was about the fact if
the bank account of the students go into the red. We thought that some people had this problem
but in fact, everybody answered ‘no’. This means that the students have a good control of their
money and that their bank account is very healthy.
The second question is about smoking. More than the half of the class does not smoke, this is very
surprising because students these days smoke a lot. But 60% of our class does not smoke. The
other 40% exists of people who smoke about 10 cigarettes a day. This is again very good, because
smoking is bad for your health and our class is very careful.
The last question that we have chosen is about drinking alcohol. Students are well known for
drinking alcohol and partying and this question is a proof of that. Only 15% of the students does
not drink, this is a very small part of the class. The rest of the class drinks 1 to 4 days in a week,
this is not so good because alcohol is bad for your health but the students are also aware of the
consequences of alcohol.
Conclusion
We can conclude that the students of our class don’t take risks too often, only when it’s needed.
They keep their bank accounts above zero, they are riskless when going out, they use
contraceptives when having sex with a stranger and they try to keep out of danger with drugs.
Recommendation
2. 2
1. Stop smoking cigarettes, naturally when you know you’re vulnerable to lung cancer.
2. Keep on using contraceptives.
3. Do some research on the dangers of alcohol and the problems you can get by drinking
alcohol.
1.2 OWN REVISED TASK
Executive summary
This survey, about the risks that our classmates take these days, gives a clear insight in how much
risks they actually take. The chosen risks are about finance, smoking cigarettes and drinking
alcohol. Now, after our classmates filled in the survey we came to conclusion that our fellow
students are actually very careful, they have good control over their money, there are not so much
students who smoke but 85% of the class does drink once a week.
Introduction
This report will look at:

● financial risks
● risks about smoking
● alcohol consumption in our class
Findings
When we were first brainstorming about questions to make a survey about risk, we thought that the

We have chosen three conclusions of questions who have surprised us the most. The first question
was about the fact that if the bank account of the students go into the red. We thought that some
people had this problem but in fact, everybody answered ‘no’. This means that the students have a
good control over their money and that they are very responsible when it comes to money.
The second question was about smoking. More than the half of the class does not smoke, this is
very surprising because we expected the students to smoke a lot. 60% of our class does not
smoke. This is again very good, because smoking is bad for your health and our class is very

Our last conclusion comes from a question about drinking alcohol. Students are well known for
drinking alcohol and partying. Only 15% of the students do not drink, this is a very small part of the

alcohol is bad for your health but the students are also aware of the consequences of alcohol.
Conclusion
We can conclude that the students of our class don’t take risks too often. They keep their bank
accounts in the black, they don’t take much risks w hen going out, they use contraceptives when
having sex with a stranger and they try to be careful with drugs.
Recommendation
3. 3
4. Stop smoking cigarettes, or if you don’t want to quit, try to smoke less.
5. Keep on using contraceptives.
6. Do some research on the dangers of alcohol and the problems you can get when drinking
alcohol.

Changing questions for whole Artevelde
I would actually don’t change the questions for the simple reason that I actually want to know if
there are differences between students who for example study for nurse and people who study
Marketing. And I also think that there would be a certain difference in risk taking because people
who study for a nurse are among me less risk-takers than people who study Marketing.

to tell usthat neuroscience issomethingverycomplicatedandthatpeople donotgeta lot of information
aboutneuroscience inmiddle school. Thatisbecause thatthe machinestocontrol the brainand learn
aboutthe brainare socomplicatedandexpensive.
Greg Gage has talkedaboutthiswithlabmate andtheyhave decidedtomake these machinessimple and
affortable foreveryone. He hasbroughtone of those machinestothisTED talkto show how thingswork
withthe brain. He has askedtwovolunteerstocome up onstage to show themveryinterestingthingslike
justby connectingthe twoarms,he hasmade it possible thatthe one armcan control the otherperson’s

puttingthe attentionsomewhere,youcando anythingyouwantsomewhereelse.Inthisvideo,Apollo
Robbinshasfor example putthe attention onaperson’shand, justtoput a pokerchiponthe same person’s
shoulderbuthe didnotevennotice because hisattentionwenttohishand,several times.

For thisblogtask,I actuallydidnot have to searcha lot.During the examsof january2016, I hadread a post
on FacebookaboutJeremyScottFoster, the Travel Freak. SoI decidedtofollow thispersonfor5weeks.It
was notso simple because he actuallypostedonce amonthso I have followed himfor4 monthsfrom

It looksall verynice, veryadventurousbutIdon’tthinkthateverybodycandothis. You have to give up
your joband youhave to be able to live indifferentplaces, soyou’re one monthinAustralia, the other
monthyou’re inThailandsoit’sverydifferentiate.Forexampleme,Idon’tthinkthatI wouldbe able todo
thisbecause Ilike totravel too,but not forsuch a longtime. So I can conclude thatJeremyisa life enjoyer,
a travel freak,adventurouspersonandtakeseveryopportunitythathe can.
I startedwiththe post onJanuary 19 2016. The blogwas called’30 thingstodo in 30 countriesbefore
you’re 30’. Jeremyhaswrittenablogfor his30th

birthday,he hasScuba dived,jumpedoutof an airplane,hikeda
glacier,bungeejumped,hitch-hikedthroughacountry,flew anairpane himself,spentaweekoffline etc.So

He tellsaboutwaffles, the sortof wafflesandwhere youcanfindthe bestwafflestoeat. Afterthat,he
talksaboutthe chocolate.Again,he looks everyplace uptofindthe bestchocolate.Atlast,he talksabout
the beerand the fritesof Brussels.Ihave evenvisitedone of the barsthat he has writtenaboutandhe was

eurosor dollarsmore to getbetterfoodandenjoyitmore.
The third blogwasabout facingyourfears. JeremytalkedinthisblogabouthisadventuresinThailandand

givena lotof interestingtipsbutthere isjustone thatI have inmy mindand that I will definitelyuse
startingnowand that is that you shouldnotcut costson thingsthat youreallylike, youshoulddoit
otherwise andthinkaboutthingsyoudon’tlike butstill have costsfor.
I reallyenjoyedreadingtheseblogs,itwasactuallythe firsttime thatIhave followedabloggerIthinkand

4.3 2 ORIGINAL CREATIVE ENGLISH ACTIVITIES OF OWN
4.3.1 Watching TV without subtitles
I am someone whowantstounderstandeverythingwhenhe watches something.Forexample, whenI
watch TV-seriesormovies,Iwantto understandanythingbecauseIalwaysthinkthatIwill notunderstand
the movie whenIdon’tunderstandasentence. ThatiswhyI alwayswantto watch englishmoviesorTV-
serieswithsubtitles.
In january2016, I wassearchingfora newTV-serie towatch.Aftera longsearchingtime,Ihave foundone.
The TV-serie iscalledSuits.A veryinterestingserieaboutlawyers. SoIdecidedtowatchthisone without
subtitlesandinthe beginning itwasveryhard. Because there were law termsusedinthisserie thatI
completelydidnotunderstandsoIhad to searchthemup on the internet.
Now,I am watchingseason4 and I almostunderstandanything.Everyepisode,there are some termsthatI
don’tunderstandbutthenI justlookitup on the internetandIcan watchfurther. So watchingTV-shows
withoutsubtitlesisaverygoodidea,ithas helpedme alot.
4.3.2 Talking English with my girlfriend
So thisone looksinterestingbutdifficult,Iadmit. Me and my girlfriendlike totravel alot.Soour last trip
was to BudapestinHungaryinfebruary2016. I am the personactuallywhohasto do the talkingwhenwe
go somewhere thatwe canexpressourselvesinEnglishbecausemyEnglishisbetterthanhers.SoI had
somethinginmindandthatwas to talkEnglishalsoto eachotherwhenwe were inBudapest.
We didthis,andin the beginningitisactuallyfunnyandabnormal,butafteraparticulartime,yougetused
to it andit isverygood actuallybecause youcantalk the whole time toeachother. Youalsocan correct
eachotherwhenthe otherone makesamistake. Now we have alsodecidedtodothismore and more and
we are planningtogo ona tripto NewYork, firstof all because itisa cityof dreamsbut alsoto improve our
Englisha little bit. IstronglyrecommendtotalkEnglishtoyour girlfriendorjustto yourfriendsbecause it
helpsyoua lot.

5 FINAL REPORT: HAS ENGLISH IMPROVED, HAVE I
ACHIEVED WHAT I WANTED, COMPARE WITH
PROGRESS IN FIRST SEMESTER)
Has my Englishimproved?Definitely!Atfirst,Ialwaysthoughtthatmy Englishwasalreadyverygood,
because Ilike totalk a lotand because Ihad not so muchdifficultieswhiletalkingEnglishbutitisdefinitely
not correct. There are so manythingsthat I have learned. Itisnotonlybecause of the Englishcourses, but
alsobecause of the othercoursesthat are giveninEnglishforexample E-MarketingandStrategic
marketing. These coursesare alsoinEnglishandwe alsohave had taskswe had to make inEnglish.
But the mainreasonthat I thinkmy Englishhasimprovedisbecause we have totalkEnglishall the time in
the class andthat’s the bestwayto learnEnglish.Youhave to improvise whatyouhave tosay because the
presentationsthatyou have todo infrontof the classare most of the time a mix betweenlearningby
heart, improvisationanda little bitof luck. The PechaKuchapresentation,Persuadingyouraudienceand
othertasks have alsohelpedme toimprove because youare sobusyby makingthese tasksthat youstart
thinkinginEnglishandthat’ssomethingverygoodIthink.
Nowit isup to ourselvestomaintainthislevel of EnglishbystayingbusyinEnglishbecausealanguage is
somethingveryabnormal. If youdon’tmaintainitby usingit, aftera couple of monthsyoulose a part of it.
So the bigtrick actuallyisthat youhave to train it,youhave to talk English, listentoEnglishmusic, watch
EnglishTV-showsandsoon.There are somany thingsthatcan improve yourEnglish, youjusthave towant
it,that’s all.
AndwhenI have to make a comparisonwiththe firstsemester, the secondsemesterwasmore fun.
Because the firstsemester, the mainfocuswere the tasksthatwe have to prepare forthe nextlesson, but
the secondsemesterwasnotlike that.We had the OCT, the PechaKucha, followingabloggerandsoon,
and I likedthatmore thanjustmakingsome exercicesinourbooks.
I wouldalsolike tothankour lectorMrs. Verheydenforthe nice coursesbecause Iactuallyliked the courses
a lot andI have neverhad the intentionof beingbored. The onlychange thatI wouldmake are the tasksin
the firstsemester,Iwouldmix the firstsemesterandthe secondsemesterbecause there isabigdifference
betweenthe two. Butingeneral,Iam actuallyverysatisfied.
