3. Introduction to MAS Holding
MAS Holdings is a conglomerate that expanded from a small-scale tailoring business and supplies various
types of clothing products to the US and European countries. The company was founded in 1987 by three
brothers Mahesh, Sharad and Ajay Amalen.
Currently, the group of companies is focused on the apparel and textile industry. New diversified
developments are also on the way, namely Attune - an IT consulting company. MAS supplies apparel to
leading retailers such as Victoria's Secret, Adidas, Gap, Marks & Spencer, Nike, Speedo, and Reebok in the
US and European countries. MAS is considered to be a major contributor of large foreign reserves to Sri
Lanka. MAS has differentiated itself through its strong technical competence in complex products.
MAS always strives to imagine and develop complex products with high technology and continue to mass
produce to provide high quality and fast delivery times.
Nowadays, modern technology plays an important role in the textile industry. With increasing competition,
companies are taking IT support to improve its supply chain management (SCM) and use it competitively.
In short, many textile companies use the power of technology to add value to their business.

4. What is the chosen business sector and what technology do they use?
The production department of the company engaged in production activities using human
labor for production activities. Later, new and improved large-scale machine tools are used to
produce clothing and sports goods with high efficiency and minimum cost.
• MAS Intimates: Specializes in the manufacture of intimate apparel such as underwear. They
focus on using innovative materials, design and manufacturing techniques.
• MAS Active: Manufactures active wear, sportswear and performance apparel. They use
advanced technologies and fabrics for sports and active lifestyles.
• MAS Fabrics: A variety of technologies are used to create fabrics with specific properties such
as moisture-wicking, stretch ability and durability
• MAS Investments: Engages in research, development and investment in state-of-the-art
technologies and processes relevant to the apparel and textile industry.

8. Disadvantages of the modern technology
• High initial investment: Implementing modern technology in the manufacturing sector often
requires significant upfront investment. While the cost of acquiring new machinery, software
and infrastructure can be significant,
• Technology Dependence: Heavy reliance on modern technology means that any technical
glitches, system failures or cyber-attacks can disrupt production processes.
• Skill Requirements and Workforce Adaptability: Modern technology may require specific
skills and training for the workforce to efficiently operate and maintain equipment.
• Potential Job Displacement: Automation and robotics have the potential to reduce the
workforce.
• Integration Challenges: Integrating new technologies into existing manufacturing processes
and systems can be complex and time-consuming.
